Jexit Fever

Emperor intends to abdicate 'in a few years': NHK
Japanese Emperor Akihito, who has spent much of his time on the throne trying to heal the wounds of World War Two, intends to abdicate in a few years, public broadcaster NHK and other domestic media said on Wednesday, a step that would be unprecedented in modern Japan.

The 82-year-old monarch, who has had heart surgery and been treated for prostate cancer in recent years, expressed his intention to the Imperial Household Agency, NHK said.

I'm going to try to keep this short. Brexit was pushed by a bunch of royal class douches. In the last 20 years the number of billionaire voters in the UK with Knight status or greater has been reducing. Among the exit crowd Boris was the only bloke, and a very popular bloke. A proper pint drinking bloke, and lok what happened to him......

Here the royal class don't have titles, they have names. With the rise of the western educated Japanese billionaire the establishment feels threatened. The fucked part is the current establishment leaders are al western educated but never were able to cash in on their education. Instead they are relying on old ties to make sure that no one else will have the money to threaten their position. The LDP draft constitution puts the working class back into their place while keeping the "true rulers" of Japan in their proper places.

The royal family of Japan doesn't want the status that the LDP wants to give them and it's very honorable of them. The sad fact is the LDP wants the power of the pre war parliament using the divine power of the imperial family as an excuse for any fuck up like they did in WWII.

Dark times are ahead.

Wuchan, it's just simpler than that.

The Emperor feels he's getting too old for the job, so now he wishes to step aside for his son.

Not so sure.

The boy has been quite vocal, unusually so for a royal family member, about his feelings regarding Japan's role as an example of peace and neutrality, as well as universal human rights. The old man might feel that there's a need to put him on the front line where he might be able to fend off the manipulative c*nts who are trying to use the royals for their own nefarious goals.

The kunaicho denies a lot of stuff. According to some commentators they're afraid that this announcement might be taken as a political statement, which is not allowed. The poor old guy is not well and is probably just really tired, but the timing of this one has a distinct political aroma.

Aha interesting, I must admit I'm not very up-to-speed on that area of politics.

Freaky thing is, old Emps-sama featured in a dream I had last night, the only rational explanation I can come up with is that I must have heard/seen some news in passing late yesterday, even though it was One of Those Days you really want to start again and I definitely wasn't actively following any news.

Like in the song... "I dreamed of her again... and the bedsheets still remember it" (no seriously... "J'ai encore reve d'elle... et mes draps s'en souviennent..." Michel Delpech I think...)

Very regular, usually very solid, sleeps through the night, no problems there.

No, it was this thing called "work" (client from hell). Though getting back on topic, I'd prefer that to a lifelong sentence as a monarch.

I remember after the 2011 earthquake while politicians were squabbling the Emperor & Empress were traveling around evacuation centers despite being in poor health themselves. He also made a speech on telly appealing for calm while Fukushima was on the edge of a major disaster, at a time a lot of people were running away. I'm not a fan of hereditary monarchies, but I do feel he genuinely cares about people.

The crown prince seems like a good bloke to.

Abe&co watch too many NHK jidaigeki, however the emperor knows the difference between history and rose tinted spectacles.

Abe knows the difference as well, just wants to write his own version.

But I enjoy watching wifey and counterpart go into a semi meltdown over something as basic as a date.
It is a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.

With any luck your shaken will expire in Heisei 31, and Heisei 31 will never come. Win!

Of more dubious benefit is that there will be a new source of puns for Johnny's Jimusho to name boy bands after.
