Drunken Kobe city official arrested after sneaking into prison
The Mainichi | July 16, 2016
KAKOGAWA, Hyogo - -
A drunk local government official has been arrested after allegedly sneaking onto the premises of a prison here in the early hours of July 16, police said. The 24-year-old official of the Kobe Municipal Government, whose name was not immediately disclosed, stands accused of trespassing.
He told investigators that he did not notice that he was on the prison property, according to local police."I had intended to go home," the official was quoted as telling investigators. "I didn't notice it was a prison."
At around 1:35 a.m. on July 16, the official climbed over the some 2-meter-high fence at the Kakogawa Prison before being overpowered by the guards, police said.
The official had taken a train to return to his home in Hyogo Ward, Kobe, after drinking in the Sannomiya district of the city's Chuo Ward, but apparently missed his station.

Didn't know there is even a prison in Kakogawa, let alone its fences are only two meter high.

But now I think of it, it's not such a surprise, Kakogawa being the shit hole it is...

It looks like there is a minor perimeter fence, before you get to the proper prison walls. https://www.google.co.jp/maps/@34.77152 ... 56!6m1!1e1

It looks to be pretty minimum security anyway: for those charged with imprisonment of less than ten years, or traffic offences with less than five years left imprisonment to run, or women prisoners. Any escapees might make Kakogawa less shitty! https://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E5%8A%A0 ... 9%E6%89%80 Plus, they know how to make clothes pegs! http://www.moj.go.jp/KYOUSEI/KEIMUSAGYO ... ogawa.html

OK, looks like the actual prison has much higher walls.

I know another prison in that general area, i.e., the Akashi one, which has much higher walls, but it has no perimeter fence, so you can walk right up to the high walls. In my young years I once drew a lot of arrows on those walls when staking out a run for the Hash House Harriers, and obviously the guards were a bit suspicious, I later heard from the runners.

But your links remind me that there tend to be a shop attached to a prison, at which economically priced goods (furniture?) can be picked up. Anyone have any experience with that?

I was tempted to take part, but I was never able to guarantee being able to keep the time free, so I never ended up doing it.

It was fun. Lots of good memories.

One of the old guys is still around I see from their web page: Beerhead. Quite a character.
