Shock as peaceful Japanese town wakes to knife rampage

[...]

Police have arrested Satoshi Uematsu, 26, a former employee at the facility. A Sagamihara city official said later Uematsu had been involuntarily committed to hospital on Feb 19 for fear he would harm others.

He had come to authorities’ attention after saying he was willing to kill severely disabled people, but was discharged on March 2 after a doctor deemed his condition had improved, the official said.

In February, Uematsu tried to hand deliver a letter he wrote to the speaker of the Diet’s lower house, demanding all disabled people be put to death through “a world that allows for mercy killing,” Kyodo news agency and TBS TV reported. Uematsu boasted in the letter that he had the ability to kill 470 disabled people in what he called was “a revolution,” and outlined an attack on two facilities, after which he said he would turn himself in. He also asked he be judged innocent on grounds of insanity, be given 500 million yen in aid and plastic surgery so he could lead a normal life afterward.

The letter was reprinted by Kyodo after the attack.

“My reasoning is that I may be able to revitalize the world economy and I thought it may be possible to prevent World War III,” the rambling letter says.

The letter, which the Tokyo police got, included Uematsu’s name, address and telephone number, and reports of his threats were relayed to local police where Uematsu lived, Kyodo said.

More

In a technical sense the doctor's diagnosis of an improved condition was correct, since he killed less than the 470 disabled people he had in his plan before therapy.

Though he may still deem himself successful in the first stage of his plan, he is likely to get away disappointed when it comes to the second stage, in which he would be judged innocent, get 5 million bugs from the government, and lead a peaceful life afterwards.

Anyway, the guy is insane, but he will not be judged as such, because he was able to plan his operation in advance.

Was watching NHK's 7:00 pm news and they stated the reason for his change was his habit of using marijuana. So I guess we can rule out japan planning on legalizing weed anytime soon. If anything I think it may have helped the demons he had in his head.

Speed?
It is a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.

Maybe you have been lucky enough to not come across any yet: some people are just crazy. They don't need chemical help.

The twitter account reveals an interest in a range of conspiracy theories.

it looks like he was so-called リア充 and netouyo at the same time. its new for indiscriminate murderer in japan.
so far almost all of j-indiscriminate murderers were otaku type guys who were isolated and didnt have friend.
he will break the stereotype that netouyo is almost equal to ugly smelly otaku guy roaming around akihabara with a backpack full of creepy stuffs to some extent.

Yes, it won't help popular attitudes to the Killer Weed, and by "help the demons" do you mean it fed them and made them grow stronger, like Obi Wan after Darth Vader cut him down? I think it is fairly well established that weed has very different effects on people, and especially paranoid schizophrenics are said to get downright Chucky on weed. I have to be very careful these days accepting offers to puff due to the potency and heavy mindboxing effect of so much of the New Weed, but all I get is like, Too Stoned, Man. It's all getting a little silly with this new idea of weed as harmless, even though it usually is, when smoked as a consenting adult.

Still, like Wage Slave suggested, I vote for speed. They like it better, especially That Ilk, and it is way easier and cheaper to get. And they really, really, really like it. It gives Shigeki, so they can Kanjiroo. Foul shiite, that stuff is, allowing this Ahole shouldn't have been taking anything except catatonic wipeout medications. I hope he doesn't get judged incompetent, as that would only embolden his fans, although Japan probably knows how to deal with the criminally insane violent: close door, turn key, dispose of latter. Problem solved. Just make it like a residential day camp with really high fences. Happy Happy.

Personally, if there is any influence to be blamed I vote for Taro Aso. Afterall, wasn't he just acting on Taro's 'thoughts'.

The wag! But perhaps he was quoted out of context? Nope. The context is him calling anyone too ill to feed themselves "tube people", and saying: "Heaven forbid if you are forced to live on when you want to die. I would wake up feeling increasingly bad knowing that [treatment] was all being paid for by the government

That is one thing that disturbed me about the twitter account. He quite obviously had some fans, who knew his plans, and responded to him before this fully became news -- that is, while he still had the ability to respond back to them. Even allowing for the inevitable people who were egging him on for the laugh (Oh, how we laughed!), there seems to have been a body of people who knew in advance, even if not exactly when. I hope there is a degree of investigation into that.

There are also some strange suggestions that he forced his parents out of their own home a few years ago. I think this is going to be a deep story.

Do we know exactly why he was fired? Was it due to the love letter he sent the speaker of the Lower House?

A couple of days after the letter, he told a co-worker that he would kill disabled. The next day this was reported to police, he was diagnosed as manic at a hospital, and given the option to resign. http://breaking-news.jp/2016/07/26/026116

Remember, Japanese cops aren't exactly know for their foresight or taking proactive action in regards to threats and such. Pretty sure his love letter's addressee is the only reason he got locked up at all.

I'm pretty sure that 19 dead bodies and 25 people in hospital with stab wounds are the only reasons.

I suspect Matsuki is referring to his initial stay in hospital.

If that is indeed what he is referring to, note that the letter was delivered, on the second attempt, after he staged a sit-in at the Residence of the Speaker of the House of Representatives. It was three days later that he disclosed his plans to a co-worker. The next day his workplace made a report to the local police, who interviewed him, sent him to a hospital for assessment, and he was found to have a mania with potential to cause harm to others.

We are all free to speculate about what was the impetus for police action.

If Matsuki is referring to the fandom, the impression I get from reading their comments is that they did not view these actions as worthy of report to the police, rather that they are worthy of a medal.

I was referring to his hospital stay but apparently my assumption there was incorrect if it was his workplace that turned him in to the PD...who got him hospitalized.

I think you are confusing the plant hippies smoked in the 1960s with a plant engineered to have very high levels of THC. There has been some debate in the UK about whether or not MJ is a dangerous drug, and it seems current strains are not a good match with people who have underlying mental health issues.

No, it was the draft dodging hydroponic hippies, goaded on by the Dutch

Joking aside, the jury is still out, but there is research trying to establish if there is a causal or coincidental link

Oh, the rules are lax, which is fine. What I meant is that they are making super high THC level mindfuck weed and promoting it as some wonder drug for any and all, which it isn't; that shiite requires fairly intensive ingestion to produce a resistance or tolerance. The problem is it has become a crutch rather than a pleasant diversion. I think the millenials' fear of reality plays into the rise of this Weed-ism. They're just such little nancies they need a mother's little helper just to cope.

legion wrote:there is research trying to establish if there is a causal or coincidental link

Yes, a good point. I only meant to suggest there is research suggesting a link between MJ use and emospasmic freakouts amongst those who are already nancies and pantywetters.

This is sure to heat up the debate over hospital security in Albania, where it is a burning issue. I would ask that we not speculate as to motives, as that might pour more fuel on the fire and inflame the issue even more.

Does anybody holiday in Albania? It sounds like a Dead Kennedys' song, but they must have some nice beaches and water, though they probably poo in the ocean like the Indians do.

From what I know from contacts in Tirane, there are issues which impair your first world holiday experience: things like the power to pump water into reservoirs only works a couple of hours a day, so you only have water a couple of hours a day, and you don't know which couple of hours they will be.

If your online persona is an accurate reflection of your true self, you should be aware that it is a country with a historical Muslim majority, Catholic and Greek Orthodox minorities. They don't like to talk about the Greek ethnicity issue. In fact, they will actively deny it exists.

But such a fun loving people, and not beyond creating a cheap pop music video based on fan submissions.

The other fun fact: the throne of Albania was once reputedly offered to an English cricketer, an altogether astounding personality.

Most people in the know looking for a primitive Adriatic holiday incorporating the bureaucracy only available from a post-Communist country choose Montenegro. This includes Albanians in the know looking for a primitive Adriatic holiday incorporating the bureaucracy only available from a post-Communist country.

I do boycott the oppressive Islamic countries, and the dry ones, but that is more political and bibulous than anything to do with religion per se, though I don't care much for the Saudi or Indonesian style in most ways, and don't see any reason to share my ill gotten booty with such places. The couple of Albanian guys I know seem Muslim the way I am Christian, IOW, culturally rather than as a matter of devotion and faith, not unlike the Yugoslavian Muslims I know. I like the sound of Montenegro though. Sounds like a place the Starship Enterprise might visit on an interstellar diplomatic mission.
