And

It is a undisputed fact that Japan has achieved a remarkable safe society compared to other industrialized countries, and they incarcerate far fewer than for instance the UK (with a prisoner rate 3 times higher) or the US (13 times higher). Yet it is also a carefully maintained image that ignores many darker aspect of the Japanese society. Its modern surface often doesn’t extend to social attitudes towards women in this male-dominated culture. Unlike the rare violent crimes, sexual assaults are said to be widespread and severely underreported. The existence of chikan (“perverts”, meaning men groping women in public) is a massive problem and has led to the creation of “women-only” carriages in most major cities. Japanese police are also criticized for failing to take victims of sexual crimes seriously time and again as a result of either chauvinist bias or an inability to investigate such crimes.

What are most disturbing are however arguments that the low crime is partially a result of a police culture that are obsessed with keeping crime statistics low. Former detectives claim that police is unwilling to investigate homicides unless there is a clear suspects and frequently labels unnatural deaths as suicides without performing autopsies. Coincidentally, Japan has one of the highest suicide rates in the world.

full of anecdotes and imaginations cloud-built by a would-be or wanna-be japannologist.
but its at least interesting as a short novel.

Yeah, like those women-only carriages I see everyday on my commute do not really exist...

Yeah, and the fear and caution that Japanese women have, hold and carefully instill in their daughters doesn't really exist. Or, as no doubt Tacky will claim - it's all an elaborate fiction in order to selfishly get more space on trains and to persecute all men.

i recommend you to see the fact as it is, putting aside your gaijins k-sympathy as a reaction toward recent j-anti-koreanism.

So let me make sure I understand. When Korean women claim they were raped by the Japanese army we should dig as deep as possible into those claims and take any inconsistencies on even the most minor niggling detail as proof that they're all a bunch of lying whores with ulterior motives. However, any stats about Korean on Korean rape should be taken at face value. Especially if they make Korea look bad.

Ha, the J-girls really are a peculiar breed of femi-nazis; maybe that's why we love them :)

Seeing Sweden and Korea there on top of that rape-list could indicate a correlation between the beauty of the ladies and the danger of rape.

LOL, what say you to this Take?

Prosecutors drop rape charges against actor Takahata
http://mainichi.jp/english/articles/201 ... dm/078000c

He admitted to raping her, no criminal charges are filed (he paid her off) so I guess it's not worthy of a rape stat eh?

Isn't Maebashi in Chiba!!!!!!!??????????????????????
I'd rather admit to staying in Nerima, or even Takaoka.

EDIT, post Wiki

Feck. Not even Chiba..............isn't Gunma landlocked???????????? FECCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK

well, recollecting my university days and judging from word-of-mouth informations, i intuitively feel that there are relatively not a few collective date rapes happening in japan, especially in university circles(ヤリサー: fucking circle), though.

Right. And how many of those are reported to the police do you think? And do you think that if it happens in Sweden then the woman is more or less likely to report it?

Ask any decent looking J-girl that has grown up here if she's ever been the victim of chikan. Ask the same of decent looking girls from any other country. Survey says...

I think it is only to do with the equipment they pack, and for some perpetrator, how the victim reacts. And there, in the reactions, is where you might see some cultural differences.

Yes, attractive women should never leave the house without an escort.

The problem with comparing crime statistics in general between countries is every country calculates these things differently. With the added shame felt by most rape victims and the vastly different cultural attitudes towards rape the stats become even less reliable. Women in tribal areas of Pakistan risk honor killing if their family finds out they've been raped. In Saudi Arabia they risk imprisonment. My guess is many do their best to make sure no one does find out. In Scandanavian countries where women apparently enjoy the highest levels of eqaulity in the world there is a lot less of a price to pay for reporting you've been raped or sexually assaulted. Yeah, some macho assholes might still see you as damaged goods or wonder what you were wearing that brought it on but the society at large isn't going to punsih you.

Anyway, given Korea's traditional attitudes towards women it wouldn't suprise me if they have a bigger rape problem then some other countries but I don't put any stock in those numbers.

Not all to do with looks, but I do think think they are more often the targets of such assery. (and yes, the lack of victim reaction definitely contributes to how willing these pervs are to grope strangers without much fear)

Fifteen women were arrested and eight brothels were shut down last month in northwest Dallas as part of a sex-trafficking investigation, authorities say.

If Denis Young Kim is a Korean, then you must accept Willson Massahiro Uyesugi is a Japanese.

Or you can say that both are Brazilians.

Who is "Willson Massahiro Uyesugi"?

If you meant "Byran Koji Uyesugi", the convicted murderer in the 1999 Xerox killings in Hawaii, he was definitely American - 3rd or 4th generation Japanese American born in Hawaii with a birth certificate that probably passes more muster than the one Obama released.

According to the papers, "Denis Young Kim" is the son of two S Korean immigrants (in Brazil) and speaks Portugeuse with a thick accent; witnesses indicate they saw him yell at his victim earlier in a foreign language (likely Korean).

I guess there are still some politically-correct evangelists who will also argue that Ahmad Khan Rahami is a United States citizen and that any mention of his birthplace, religion and ethnicity are wholly irrelevant.

I'm not one of them.

So a not so happily assimilated K-Brazillian? Other news postings I saw referred to him as South Korean.

Generic nisei.
Just any old plausibly Brazilian-flavoured ethnic Japanese name.
Any resemblance to mass murderers, alive or dead, was completely subconscious/coincidental.

By the way, are you actually giving support to Birthers in your post? I need to know so that I can evaluate how much attention I should pay to your other posts.

allegedly 張炳泰, the president of korea university(朝鮮大学校) in kodaira city, tokyo read out as a loyalty message to the king of Kimchi in the 60th anniversary of the founding of the school that "大学内で米日帝国主義を壊滅できる力をより一層徹底的に整える(we are going to thoroughly prepare the power to destruct america=japan imperialism inside the university!)".

its much the same as they themselves declared that the university is a training school to bring up spies of north korea.
and they arrogantly take it for granted that j-government pay them subsidiary aid.
