it seems like it was a valid claim by the local japanese. what is inappropriate is only the way of the conductors speaking.

The issue is oftentimes the people here talking about "Japan being super racist" are usually white people who have their first taste of racism in Japan, overreact to it, then say "Japan is more racist than America".
In the meantime, people like me who are a minority (Chinese-American) in America and have lived in both countries would say American racism is a lot worse. I have been physically assaulted and had racial slurs yelled at me in America; I have not had anywhere close to that experience in Japan, and supposedly the Japanese "hate" the Chinese.
