If only there was some way to mark skin permanently....

Gee, if only there was some way to mark skin permanently...
Japan tracks dementia patients with QR codes attached to fingernails
BBC.com | 2016-Dec-08
The stickers, which contain the unique details of a individual user, are attached to fingernails.
A Japanese city is keeping track of elderly dementia sufferers by attaching barcodes containing personal information to their fingers and toes, officials say.
A company in Iruma, near Tokyo, has developed a tagging system for members of the public at risk of getting lost.
The 1cm (0.4in) square stickers hold an address, telephone number and unique identity number for each user.
The free service, launched this month, is a first for Japan.

Wow, QR-code, that's amazing technology, almost like a fax machine. OTOH, on one of these, you might even be able to install a load of TNT, if you feel it's time to come into your inheritance.

Sadly, one of those has a nasty monthly charge, whereas Japan's advanced fax/barcode tech is basically free.

666chips(tm) have just a one-time expense, and the police can use the dogcatcher's equipment to ID granny.

Those microchips seem to have instilled a false sense of security on the locals when it comes to doggies. I still have an old fashioned name tag with my name, address, phone #, etc on my dog....the locals tend not to and defend the decision by saying their doggies are chipped. You should see their eyes light up when I point out the fact that some random person who finds their lost doggie may not know about microchips and almost certainly not have a device to read one...and with no ID tag, it would be hard to blame them for adopting an "abandoned pup." My parents doggie in the states has some sort of goofy tattoo near it's balls that is supposed to alert people that it's chipped but I've never seen one here and even though my pup is chipped, she doesn't have one either.

On the other hand, letting the locals know about dog tattoos may not be a good idea....
