Well put. I would caution that this is probably not as black and white an issue as it might seem.

The Zebra that escaped was reported to be alive.

The Zebra captured was proved to be dead.

You can rudder jerk off all day long on how it might be more complicate or even a zionist false flag if you really need that kind of shit to feel smart.

Or just look at method+result and conclude on a fuck up.
When I rescue a kitty my priority is not the capture part but avoiding him to get in harms way.
Apparently completely fucking up the "no harm" part due to morons is still defended out of probable moronic solidarity. misery loves company as has been proved countless times here.
The zebra was on a golf course not in the middle of rush hour traffic, time was then on their side.

So, I take it that you agree that rescuing a kitty is not such a black and white issue after all?

Perhaps that's overstating it but the gist is there is more than one way to skin a cat. And although they were in the saddle they didn't take account of that.
It is a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.

Wow ... that degenerated quickly.

Since there is a clear dichotomy between those who give a horse's ass and those who don't, with the latter apparently in the majority, I'm off to greener pastures.

How many shades of grey do you see in "don't kill what you are trying to rescue"

Because, like for radiations... your sanity might come into question if you claim that studies have shown that drowning can be good for your health...

A zebra that ran away from a horse riding club in Japan has died in a golf course lake after it was tranquilised.

Am I the only one wondering what a zebra was doing at a horse riding club? (and why are they called shimauma...if Africa is a shima, Japan is nothing more than floating debris.)

Shima = stripe.

I believe it was a zoo zebra that was sent to the horse riding club for "training".

Ahhh, that makes sense. (I didn't bother looking up the kanji)

Why is it that J-Zoo's in the media always seem to end up looking like failure staging areas for illegal animal trafficking rather than actual Zoo's?

It gets stupider and stupider.

Zebras are actually quite aggressive animals. They evolved to survive the onslaught by lions. That's why you don't see any Africans riding them.

To make things worse, they are smaller than horses, and not very able to carry a person on their backs. Maybe a kid, but then who wants to put a kid on an aggressive animal.

And then there is their attention span, which tends to be short, so training them kind of sucks. It is not impossible, but it requires a lot of patience. And there is always a risk.

So, it makes me wonder why this animal was at a horse riding club?

How about this for a scenario

It's a cold March day, you have a stripey vanity purchase running around the golf course, paying punters are being teed off, you can keep chasing it all day or you can shoot the fucker and go home.

Hmmm

Exotic Basashi never tasted so good

It did occur to me that it probably would have been more humane if they had simply shot the animal in the head, then congratulated themselves for removing the bullet quickly, while noting with sadness that it had died of unknown causes during the procedure.

Same effect. Same logic.

Stupid.

I remember reading somethng on that by Jared Diamond in Guns, Germs and Steel. They are completely undomesticableafiable. Then again, isn't Japan the only OECD country where the captive animal industry is still going strong? They probably thought it would make a cute attraction.

Baby tiger of endangered species drowns at Yokohama zoo
A baby Sumatran tiger, an endangered species, drowned Thursday at a zoo near Tokyo, the zoo operator said Friday.

The three-month-old tiger fell into a water-filled trench at the Yokohama Zoo Zoorasia after being moved to a display area. The baby tiger apparently tripped over electric wires installed to prevent a fall into the trench, the zoo operator said.

The male Sumatran tiger was among three born on Sept 27 and the zoo operator was preparing to display them to the public from Jan. 14.

“We will not let this happen again,” Takeshi Watanabe, deputy chief of the zoo, said.

There are estimated to be only 400 to 700 Sumatran tigers alive today.

That's a factual statement.

The baby tiger is dead already, so it will be unable to drown once more...

I got it.

And yes, it is a cat, so it should be able to drown eight more times...

Fresh questions arise after kangaroo dies at Hokkaido zoo
Zoo previously questioned over string of animal deaths
A female kangaroo found dead at a zoo in Sapporo on Friday was likely killed after her neck was caught in the mesh of her feeding box, raising fresh questions over the zoo’s habitat conditions following a string of other animal deaths.

Officials at Sapporo Maruyama Zoo said a keeper found the eastern grey kangaroo named Ume lying dead in her cage in the morning because of a spinal cord injury, likely caused by her neck becoming dislocated after she stuck her nose into her feeding box, Nippon News Network reports (Jan. 7).

Crowds of visitors were gathered Saturday morning to mourn the sudden death of Ume, for whom the zoo had set up a memorial.

The zoo has implemented unspecified emergency measures to prevent other kangaroos from becoming caught in the mesh. Smaller mesh for feeding boxes were implemented last year.

Kato Osamu, director of Sapporo Maruyama Zoo, said the zoo has “ended up causing an extremely heartbreaking incident. We hope to properly examine what went wrong.”

Fresh questions have been raised over management and habitat conditions at the zoo following the deaths of other animals, including a sun bear that was being trained for breeding and a giraffe that suffocated on food, TV Asahi reported (Jan. 7).

A child visiting the zoo to pay respects for Ume said they were “sad she passed away.”

Another child said they “thought going to the zoo would mean there’d be lots of fun things, but [Ume] is gone, poor her.”

Kangaroos are extremely stupid animals.

I remember that "Skippy the Bush Kangaroo" series from my childhood, but later I learned that Skippy was actually a multitude of kangaroos, because they kept jumping under the jeep during filming.

Thanks for reviving the PTSD... this, Lassy, Rintintin and Oun the dolphin.... so much nightmare fuel fron discount "kids" tv shows...

Remind me of me bitch watchin a bit of Gamera movie and going all like "ermugerd such famius actorz just fer a kidz movie..." always heartwarming to remind her that it's more "pathetic actorz in a worthless show" (ok... this serie is a bit like social time capsulez... so not entirely worthless...)

Not exactly heart crushing?

All nine Lassies have been male dogs. Although in the movies and on television, Lassie was cast as a female dog. All of the Lassies were descendants of Pal, the first Lassie, who died in 1958. Since then the Lassies have been (in order): Lassie Jr., Spook, Baby, Mire, Hey Hey, Boy, The Old Man and Howard, the current Lassie.

Q: Why are only male dogs used?

A: Mature female collies go into heat twice a year and shed a large part of their coats during that time. That ruins the dog's appearance for as much as a third of the year.

Q: Did Lassie perform all of her own stunts?

A: No. For fight scenes and other roughhousing, Weatherwax usually used one of Lassie's siblings to avoid messing up the star's coat.

....but Lassie would have been more impressive as a sheltie'
