Woa... slow down sport...
You are trying to sell dangerous stuff to a nation of inbreds that need safety cap on their soda pop bottles to avoid dying by the thousands most regular days of the week.

I was meeting with a guy the other day who's an environmental engineer and is partly in charge of dealing with the so called decontamination of the Fukushima Daiishi thingo. I was impressed to learn that they shut down pretty much every reactor after it, not that they didn't bring a few back online, and the open honesty in discussing everything..
Still, no doubt some serious shit that I can have heated discussions about with non-hippies

Sitting beside an open window and the heater is turned off, while my winter clothes are probably being eaten by the moths as we speak. Sometimes I think, I should have married a Siberian or Alaskan girl.

It just started snowing veeery lightly in my neck of the woods. How wonderful! Went outside with the doggies to celebrate the event, even though I got shot by a witch today (lumbago). But then, it was Friday 13th anyway and the witches will soon go back into their dens until next full moon.

Winter,,, finally! :bounce:

There was some potential early this morning for a 5 cm snow based clusterfuck ( I was out at 7:30) but it has all pretty much melted away now. I am told the police round here had to crack down and fine lots of safety first minded people 15,000 for fitting snow chains/studs when there was no good cause. I have little experience of snow but I am told you should only fit them if the road has a layer of compacted snow/ice. Otherwise, you just tear up the road for no good purpose as snow tyres are just as good.

That's right. You do not want chains contacting the road surface, just snow.

Running dry on chains also kills the chains pretty quickly. Winter tyres is the way to go in conditions like these.

Sooo... you actually expect the locals to understand what they are doing and why...
The same morons who stop 10 meters before the stop line at a red light because "safety distance sumthing sumthing" proving they completely missed the concept being "safe stoping distance" since the same morons ride your bumper as soon as traffic goes...

The 8am traffic was mostly carefull with just one March driving like at the racetrack because it had winter tires...
The driveback around 9am saw the appearance of Miatas, Skylines and Silvias... Telling you the lower end of the IQ bell curve is finally awake...

Yes, should work too. Not as good as snow tyres, but likeiy good enough for Aichi snow.

Install a big fat anti-crumplezone bullbar to save on repair cost in case you hit something anyway :)

Re: The Weather Thread.

Postby Yokohammer » Mon Jan 16, 2017 8:51 am

It has been a pain in the posterior up here for the past few days. Although I'm in a "northern" area that sometimes gets a generous dump of snow, those dumps are usually one-offs and the snow is gone in a day or two. Until the next dump, which we might get three or four of each year. But for the past four days we have had a centimeter or two, just enough to cover the roads, every single f*cking day. Wake up every morning and there it is again. That means the first job every day is to brush/shovel off the steps, walkways, and roads around the house. And the car. And it's that really sticky snow that clumps up and adheres tenaciously to anything and everything.

I get that it's the norm for people in, say, Hokkaido or Niigata, but I didn't choose to live in Hokkaido or Niigata for that very reason. Hopefully it'll be over when it's over.

To shovel snow is therapeutic. Against wifey's advice I shovelled a bunch of snow from some stairs yesterday and lo and behold, my lumbago stopped hurting for many hours. Now that I am sitting in my heated office with a heated cushion at my back and sipping on a nice cup of Nespresso, it's only possible because of a quadruple of EVE. Shovelling snow is better IMO.

And there is a wonderful zen to it, a rhythm, vibes, voodoo... :D

I still want for the voodoo of resistance wire embedded in the concrete with proper drainage from the getgo....some rather easy work and small amount of $$ then and melt that shit at the flip of the switch whenever necessary. I'll rake leaves for my manual labor therapy!

Didn't you also have an idea that solar power could be used to melt snow and ice on the roads? I mean why not? If you can keep the inside of a heavily insulated jacket warm with a battery, surely heating concrete or tarmac can't take much power. :cool2:
