Scuba diver Monica Chin said local fishermen called her late last month to say a large Chinese vessel with workers on board was using a crane to tear apart the Japanese ships.

"Hotbed of toilet paper kleptomania" :D

Elderly Chinese toilet paper thieves face up to their crimes.

At the Temple of Heaven, one of the capital’s busiest tourist sites and a former hotbed of toilet paper kleptomania, a user in need of tissue paper must stand in front of a wall-mounted machine with a high definition camera.

The device’s software remembers recent faces, and if the same a person reappears within a certain period, it refuses to activate the automatic roller.

The current setting per person is 60cm of paper within nine minutes.

Hmm, that would keep a person with diarrhea quite some time on the toilet...

Yeah, total overkill.

Reminds me of what they did in our street last week. We had a simple concrete gomi pit, where we would put all the recyclables etc and just throw a crow net over the bags. Now they have installed huge ugly eyesores of cages, which look more like lion cages or gorilla kennels. And of course, they are locked on the non-gomi days by the gomi-powers that be. I have no idea, who they expect to be wanting to steal their valuable gomi to waste so much money to protect it as if it were Fort Knox. Godzilla maybe?

Total overkill.

They probably lock it to prevent you from putting your gomi there on off-days. That would be a serious offense...

I used to live in an apartment for civil servants, and there was one inhabitant who checked with binoculars whether people put out their gomi at appropriate times. LOL

Never underestimate the power of hima, loneliness, and respect demanding from the elderly.

I never had to deal with a locked cage but I would simply put the bag on top of the cage if needed. As it is, I dump all my garbage before any international trip (fuck leaving that inside to fester) and I've yet to receive the expected backlash. (funny thing is the gomi magically disappears immediately on <gasp> the incorrect days) How dare I demand convenience when it comes to gomi

BTW, I never toss out anything with my name or address on it after having a gomi-nazi stalk me with pics of my opened gomi (friend tossed a pet bottle in with the combustibles)

Landlord?

We do this regularly, when gomi is put in front of our house on the wrong day. We just take it into the water pump room and then hopefully not forget to put it back out on Gomi Eve. Easier than deal with the mess that the crows and other critters make, if gomi is let there to rot.

I wonder how long or how many more nukes it would take fore these cretins to understand the link between crows population explosion and unprotected trash bag pickup...

These days they are trying to push for 2 burnabke categories:
The burnable ... burnables...
and the
Biological burnables

I guess not everyone can be like Tepco...

Composting gomi? I'd be all for it. With all the weird categories they have, this would be a worthwhile one imo. But probably hard to train the millenial city slickers, what goes in there and what goes not.

No, the trash dudes. I've seen the landlord move the bags into one of those decomposing plastic bins and cover it before but never put away the gomi for the correct day.

Coligny wrote:I wonder how long or how many more nukes it would take fore these cretins to understand the link between crows population explosion and unprotected trash bag pickup...

Which begs the real question, in areas where there is room, why can't dumpsters be used? Solves the special gomi days problem and keeps the crows/mice out. On another note, the newly paved and planted streets around my area are already abound with garbage. Pretty sad looking to see so much gomi on new islands on new roads....there may be less gomi in public spaces in Japan but there is still plenty and increasing in my area.

From 'American Gigolo' through 'Pretty Woman,' the actor was at the top of studio A-lists, but speaking up passionately in defense of Tibet has taken him down the indie road that has led to two new films and the best reviews of his career.
