No idea about the Eggo but I am afraid that everyone has overlooked the fact that the Japanese language contact details are for Sadako.

Order cheese.

Unless you get someone else to order cheese within one week, you die a gruesome, lonely death..

Since this is becoming the cheese thread: I have pimped this guy before and probably will again if the opportunity arises: http://vilmilk.jp/cart/ For fans of South American style cheeses, made in Gunma. Also dulce de leche, and a grillable cheese similar to a halloumi, but that last doesn't seem to be a regular offering.

And for the benefit of condiment research, it appears that Eggo Salad Dressing, made by T Marzetti Company of Columbus Ohio, may be limited to the Okinawa market. And I mean limited worldwide. There doesn't seem to be evidence of its existence elsewhere.

The research continues: it seems that the people behind Eggo Waffles first made Eggo Mayonnaise, but it is now made by Marzetti, a different company but salad dressing specialist. https://news.google.com/newspapers?nid= ... 8883&hl=en

One connection is Okinawa, yes, but I knew of it before moving abroad. There is another connection.

Not mayonnaise as you will know it. Salad cream. Like Japanese Mayonnaise only much more so and with noticeable amounts of vinegar. The disgusting stuff he is nostalgic for, and Eggo is substituting for, is this:

Image

Apparently Miracle Whip is more or less identical but thicker and various brands of salad dressing (eg Eggo) are similar.

Disgusting stuff except perhaps for children. Never could work out the appeal but never really had it as a child as I grew up well outside the UK. Disgusting on pasta, salad or anything else or with anything else.

I think it may have been available in Australia but wasn't nearly as ubiquitous as it was in the UK. I don't remember having it very often anyway.
It is a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.

Miracle Whip is what I grew up with but I was never really much of a fan of the stuff except on certain sandwiches with mustard. On salad or pasta...sounds more like make do with what you have food than something people actually want to eat.

Miracle Whip is the plastic version of snot mayonnaise: I won't eat either unless its an ingredient of something better like potato salad.

Japanese cold pasta "salad" slathered in slimy-sweet Kewpie mayo -- toxic-waste is the stuff of my nightmares.

Nah, mayonnaise on French Fries. That's how it should be done!

Agreed. That's good all right. Still do it after a trip to Amsterdam in the nineties taught me that one. Am I just oblivious or was that not a (street food) thing when I first went there back in the early eighties?

Yep, the mayonnaise in Japan is not very good.

We learned that from the Belgians.

French fries are kind of a street food, but we also eat them at home.

Ah yes. That explains it. I saw it in Amsterdam before I went to Belgium so assumed it was the other way round. Speaking of which - moules frites eh? Without mayonnaise.

And for the Americans among us: french fries with tomato ketchup is called "patatje ongesteld" in Holland, which roughly translates to "fries with women's period"...

That would be a blob of ketchup on a bigger blob of mayonnaise. Hmm, the Dutch would call that "patatje Japan", I guess...

Ah, reminds me of my childhood, when parents and me spent many a holiday in Scheveningen. I learnt how to tame the hotel's boxer and I learnt about the culinary delightfulness of french fries with mayo. Yummy!

And all those cars you bought in those days can be sold for much much more now.
