According to the doc/pharmacy I used today, it's some kind of government mandated bullshit flowchart dosage mentality. The drug is クラリス (clarithromycin) which is supposedly limit to 400mg per day for adults "by law."

Running into this all the time in my years in J-land. Doctor told me that I might be able to live long and prosper in "the west", but here, he is only allowed to prescribe me half of what I need or less. So he "tops it up" with other drugs and the evil mix produces little help but lots of side effects (of which the doc thinks, gamman is the correct therapy )

Yeah, acetaminophen in high doses can damage your liver. Dangerous stuff.

Matsuki, be careful with Acetaminophen. Though it is a safe medicine, if you go over the maximal dose, it can be deadly. The tablets I have here were bought in the Netherlands (sold as Paracetamol), and they are 500 mg each. They prescribe maximally 2 tablets per time for adults, and maximally 6 tablets per 24 hours. That means maximally 2 tablets per 8 hours.

Acetaminophen kills pain and lowers fever, but it is not anti-inflammatory. If you take other medicines, check whether they also contain Acetaminophen, because some people are unaware that they also count towards the maximal dose.

If you overdose, go immediately to the hospital.

Right, 4,000mg and beyond within a 24 hour period is where the warnings have it. I've never taken more than the recommended 1000mg and never more than 3 times a day. (yes, it's bullshit for them to have claimed it was for inflammation) That being said, the other meds prescribed are Huscode Combination Tablets and Claris. No overlap there. (But like others, the Huscode recommended dosage seems to be less than what is prescribed: "In general, for adults, take 3 tablets at a time, three times a day. The dosage may be adjusted according to the disease, age or symptoms. For babies, infants and children, take this medicine as follows: aged 12 to under 15 years, 2/3 of the adult dose" The prescription I got is 2 tablets, 3 times a day....the children's dosage...and yeah, still coughing)

Finally my fever is gone but not the sore throat, cough, and headache. Not taking any chances so day #5 in bed again to rest.

Panacea

Make honey-lemon-ginger syrup: In a small pot over medium heat, simmer 1 cup honey, 1 cup water and ½ cup minced ginger until mixture cooks down to a thick syrup, 10 minutes. Strain through a fine-mesh sieve, pressing on solids to extract liquid. Discard solids. Add¾ cup fresh lemon juice to syrup and stir. Cover and chill.

In a tumbler half-filled with ice, stir together 2 ounces honey-lemon-ginger syrup and 2 ounces blended Scotch. Pour¼ ounce Islay single-malt Scotch over the back of a spoon so it floats on top of drink. Garnish with a slice of ginger and candied lemon peel (optional).

Yum, thanks for that. Will try it soon. I don't get flu tho I have had bad colds but found drinking whisky at home makes it better.
