Luckily, wifey has lived long enough outside of Japan, and she has learned some basic table manners there. For me, even after all these years in Japan, I lose appetite completely, when someone slurps around me. Maybe one the reasons, why I never go to ramen shops.

The fork incorporates a microphone, which detects the noise of slurping from the user, and it then sends a signal by wifi or bluetooth to your Apple portable device which then plays a louder, more distracting noise somewhere else to hide the original slurp noise and to delight and amuse bystanders. I'm not entirely sure that it solves the "problem" intended.

I don't think there is any distinction between soba and udon on one hand, and ramen on the other. If there is any distinction, it is between noodles of oriental origin and those of European origin.

its no more than how your brain interprets the sounds.
as long as i know, there is an tendency that non-japanese relatively dont mind the chewing sound while they plausibly do mind the slurping sound. making a sound when chewing with your mouth open is regarded as rude and disgusting among the majority of japanese.
its so-called クチャラー. the most terrible kucharaa who i know is korean and chinese, by the way. and at least westerners are more terrible than japanese regarding the chewing sound.

i feel sorry for you experienced j-style indirect antiforeignism here and there in japan and got to hate japanese (especially) guys but there is no fault in j-foods.

What it is, is a vibrant, public discussion about the validity of certain measures, and a long overdue examination of Danish attitudes to the foreigners who live among them.
