Even if you had been right, Britain's Imperial heyday came after it abolished slavery, creating an exploitative economic dependency whose effects are still felt in many ways today, so it's even more insidious than slavery in some ways.

I think the real push to end slavery coincided with the heyday of the British Empire, which was how they shut it down in the colonies, and started demanding other nations do the same in theirs.
