Brits: Old Tenner Expires next Week.

Postby Grumpy Gramps » Mon Feb 19, 2018 2:00 am

Old £10 notes will expire on 1 March 2018, says Bank of England

Grauiad wrote:The last date for using the old £10 note featuring Charles Darwin will be 1 March 2018, the Bank of England has announced.

After that date only the new £10 notes, featuring Jane Austen, will be legal tender. The plastic notes featuring Austen – the first female writer to feature on a banknote – were first issued in in September and by early October accounted for 55% of £10 notes in circulation.

The Bank of England will continue to exchange the paper Darwin £10 notes, first issued in 2000, after 1 March.

The paper £10 is going the way of the old £5 notes, which ceased to be legal tender in May. Both new notes have encountered controversy because they contain tallow, an animal byproduct.

Better dig up your stashes and check, before it's too late.

Doesn't matter.

With Brexit, even the new Tenner will become worthless...

True. They've already run out of chickens. Can't be long until they run out of tenners. Sad :(

You'd have to ask the Brits. But AFAIK, 5 nicker is also known as a "lady godiva" :)

AFAIK, two lady godiva are a cockle and three of them a commodore. And 25 quid are a pony.

Brits..... :???:

In the frozen north the ponies all work down the pit

Nobody could dream of such wealth that we would need a special word

An Ayrton (tenner geddit) was commonish in my manor (SW London). And score for £20. And a monkey for 500 of course.

And grand for £1,000. Very widespread in London - Can't comment on the frozen, grim north.
It is a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.

- Macbeth (Act 5, Scene 5)

William Shakespeare, April 1564 - May 3rd 1616
