I don't really care a flying fuck. However, considering the health of the forum, I would say that having him on the loose has a chilling effect. I'm sure there would be more useful discussion without him and if he really wants to have his say, as opposed to annoying people making perfectly reasonable posts, then he could do so in Beyond Fucked. Further, having him at liberty deters new people from joining in. There is something very underhand and unpleasant about him.

I was going to say the opposite... others have done much, much worse and still not been banned. For example, I am personally aware of at least 4-5 very regular posters from the "good old days" who gave up and left the forum because of the prolific posting of a single user, who is still not banned to this day.

We've banned Takechanpoo temporarily in the past when he broke rules, just like we do for other users. We'll ban him again if he does it again. But we do rules-based moderation on FG in general. Unpopular opinions are not against the rules, unless they also cross the line on other rules (continuous off-topic posts that disrupt other threads, personal attacks, etc.). And it usually takes some repetition of bad behavior before we swing the banhammer.

So if you just disagree with him, try fighting back with counterarguments. But if he's breaking rules, by all means let us know. Sometimes we moderators are asleep at the wheel and overlook things.

I think it likely that the reason new people are not joining in is the lack of an easily identifiable way to open a new account here. You actually have to be pretty determined to track down the admin in some way to do it these days. Not that that is necessarily a bad thing, and there is likely to be a number of reasons that that came about, but you can not deny that it has an impact on forum vitality. Then again, few of the recent members have become active participants.

Incidentally I do not agree that other conversation is stifled because of Take's presence. Everyone here is perfectly capable of having a conversation with those who they wish to converse with, and of filtering out the noise that might come from conversations they do not want to participate in. The same happens in real life.

Are you suggesting that people decide not to make a post, or hold back from making additional points they would otherwise, because Take might be listening in and say something in response? If they do, those people are not yet sufficiently fucked. Anyone who is that much of a shrinking violet would be unable to survive the risk that Japanese people want to check out what the gaijin has in their shopping basket at the supermarket.

The signal to noise ratio coming from Take has changed a lot over the years. After a pretty shocking start, things got better for a while, but they are not now at their best. I will admit that I have recently started to not look at threads if certain posters are shown as the last person to post, but that is about as far as "chilling effects" go personally. However, that is more as a result of perceived lack of value for the effort of clicking on the link, rather than chagrin that a carefully worded post will be deliberately distorted in response by any other person. And it is not just Take's posts. Often the people who complain most about him -- to the extent of creating whole threads about what to do about him -- have a pretty similar signal to noise ratio.

No thanks for the self-righteous, mentally lazy lumping people such as me with strong opinions at times with trolls spewing propaganda about Nanjing, being the Japanese version of Holocaust deniers having their way on these forums. For someone who claims to know what I write without mentioning my name, you confuse TakeTroll posts with ones where I will argue a point and use concrete examples.

I and posters like Matsuki have taken him up on sex slaves, Nanjing and Japanese racism to name a few but we don't just assert - we give examples and have rational components to our posts, debating instead of just hurling abuse. Many posters call others some names or use strong language but the difference is this goes with some rational thinking and expressions.

And I'll use some of that strong language now - you sound like an arsehole making the comparison. If somebody tries to have a debate with me I don't hurl abuse nor do I link discredited propaganda to my posts. You do realise that if Take is indeed just a troll as you claim, this whole thread is doing nothing more than making him stronger.
There is always the option to make these complaints behind the scenes, with the "report this post to a Mod" button, the exclamation mark in the triangle next to the quote button. I have used it in the past, and it is much more effective than trying to shame the mods into some action by raising a popular movement.

By the way, you claim not to hurl abuse in addressing the content of the posts of others. I think that might call for a little self-reflection while reviewing your posting history. Just sayin'.
