Sorry to bust up your porno love in but

I have to honestly say that compared to Brit politicians the Japanese aren't doing bad. One of the things which convinces me voting for Brexit was exactly the right thing is it has made it painfully obvious how completely crap our politicians are. I look forward to the UK continuing to make Japan appear functional.

So voting for Brexit was the right thing, not because it was the correct choice, but more for because it showed that the political class which had been elected in the past was not the correct choice. Is that even taking back control?

Whatever you say, but I hope that doesn't end up being a baby and bathwater situation. But that is not a concern to those who are sure it was the right choice whatever.

When you get deep enough, I suppose living in a country where you are sure that 48% of your fellow man are idiots is not that much different from living in a country where you are sure that 52% of your countrymen are idiots.

Enter kakistocracy, a word invented by the English a couple of centuries ago.

But it totally makes sense: voting the incompetents into power in order to expose them for the incompetents they are...

More or less, except the taking back control bit was always going to be bullshit, the only control they had was to vote the wrong way on a single issue, so they did. What surprised me more is Ms May went on to call an election, a second attempt at political theater by the Tories after the first had gone so badly wrong.

The current dialogue of name-calling is not helpful, reading below the line on UK news sites reveals a level of self righteousness which rivals climate change debates. As yet it is all speculation, malls are closing all over the US because of online shopping, but in the UK the equivalent phenomena is being laid at the door of pre-Brexit. This is similar to every bit of inclement weather being blamed on CO2.

A while back the PM of India was having a meeting with the PM of the UK & they said visas were on the agenda, I really thought the PM of India was going to berate the UK for stealing their bright educated kids, turned out India wanted to send more. Maybe India will get to benefit more from their own education system than the UK in future.

“We’re comfortable with the present stance of monetary and fiscal policy,” said David Lipton, the IMF’s number two official, after the fund’s annual mission to Japan. “What we see as important is the maintenance of the approach that’s been laid out.”

Despite the failure to ignite inflation during four years of Abenomics, Mr Lipton rejected any suggestion the policy had failed. “I think we should be considering Abenomics as something that has been successful,” he said. “It should be continued because it has brought success.”

..."Not all of the domestic growth came from private citizens and businesses. Mr. Abe announced a major government spending program a year ago, and the data suggest the money is beginning to find its way from account books to the real economy. Public investment grew at a 22 percent pace.

Japan has the largest public debt in the world, relative to the size of its economy, but ultralow interest rates let the government borrow cheaply. The central bank is, in effect, underwriting public spending by buying up government bonds — an arrangement criticized as reckless by fiscal conservatives, but welcomed by others who say Japan needs the pump-priming."

It's just more moving the goalposts to declare victory. Japan basically updated to the new GDP calculation method which includes R&D costs/investments as a part of GDP. The UN had made this the new standard several years ago but now with Japan's recent adoption of it, there is an appearance of growth, even without any legit change.

Japan's 2014 General Election: Political Bots, Right-Wing Internet Activism, and Prime Minister Shinzō Abe's Hidden Nationalist Agenda
In this article, we present results on the identification and behavioral analysis of social bots in a sample of 542,584 Tweets, collected before and after Japan's 2014 general election. Typical forms of bot activity include massive Retweeting and repeated posting of (nearly) the same message, sometimes used in combination. We focus on the second method and present (1) a case study on several patterns of bot activity, (2) methodological considerations on the automatic identification of such patterns and the prerequisite near-duplicate detection, and (3) we give qualitative insights into the purposes behind the usage of social/political bots. We argue that it was in the latency of the semi-public sphere of social media—and not in the visible or manifest public sphere (official campaign platform, mass media)—where Shinzō Abe's hidden nationalist agenda interlocked and overlapped with the one propagated by organizations such as Nippon Kaigi and Internet right-wingers (netto uyo) during the election campaign, the latter potentially forming an enormous online support army of Abe's agenda.

Japan Protesters Call for ‘Liar’ Abe to Resign Over Scandal

https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles ... er-scandal

A Kyodo poll taken over the weekend showed a drop of 5.4 percentage points in Abe’s approval from a survey just two weeks earlier, tumbling to 37 percent. The disapproval rating rose to almost 53 percent. Almost four-fifths of those surveyed said they were dissatisfied with Abe’s explanations over a long-running scandal centering on the decision to let his close friend open a veterinary school.

Yep, time for Abe to resign. He already caused one official at the Finance Ministry to commit suicide. A real tragedy.
