Economic Effect of Obon

I wonder how much of a bump the Japanese economy gets every year from the Obon holiday? With the extra travel and consumption, it must have a marked effect. Also, I get so damn tired of all these stooges on Japan Today whinging about Obon and other holidays, how Japanese should travel at different times and it makes it inconvenient for them. I really must stop reading the comment section over their as it makes my blood pressure rise.

Let me whine about Obon then from a different perspective.

I have to work today, and almost all restaurants on campus are closed, so now I have become marginalized into having to eat an expensive lunch...

It's not like we don't have Christmas and such. I guess I feel their pain (traffic!!) but...with a little planning you can avoid much of it.
