I used to take it for granted. But then they stopped publishing WaiWai at the Mainichi, so I had to go learn how to read Japanese.

Mishima's widow refuses to allow the publication of some of his correspondence because it would prove that, he was, um... rather peculiar in some ways.

Queer Factoid: Japan's most enigmatic modern author, Yukio Mishima, considered marrying Michiko before she became Empress of Japan.

Japan’s Haruki Murakami withdraws from consideration for alternative Nobel award
The Japan Times / REUTERS | Sept. 16, 2018
Japanese author Haruki Murakami has asked for the withdrawal of his nomination for an alternative to the Nobel Prize in Literature, postponed this year over a sexual misconduct scandal, saying he wanted to concentrate on his writing.
___________
The weird part is that Nobel "sexual misconduct scandal" is not about Murakami being a pervert, but the judges of the Nobel literature academy getting hinky (in some unstated, hush-hush way).

Colorless Tsukuru Tazaki and His Years of Pilgrimage by Haruki Murakami
The girls entwined themselves lithely around Tsukuru. Kuro's breasts were full and soft. Shiro's were small, but her nipples were as hard as tiny round pebbles. Their pubic hair was as wet as a rain forest. Their breath mingled with his, becoming one, like currents from far away, secretly overlapping at the dark bottom of the sea.
These insistent caresses continued until Tsukuru was inside the vagina of one of the girls. It was Shiro. She straddled him, took hold of his rigid, erect penis, and deftly guided it inside her. His penis found its way with no resistance, as if swallowed up into an airless vacuum. She took a moment, gathering her breath, then began slowly rotating her torso, as if she were drawing a complex diagram in the air, all the while twisting her hips. Her long, straight black hair swung above him, sharply, like a whip.
