TOKYO (TR) – A 20-year-old Japanese national denies supplying marijuana to international school students in custody on drug-related charges, Tokyo Metropolitan Police said on Tuesday, reports TV Asahi (July 24).

According to police, Japanese national Franklin Singer denies supplying marijuana and other drugs to the students — four boys and girls of Japanese nationality aged 17 and 18 — who have been sent to prosecutors over the alleged possession of the illegal drug.

TOKYO (TR) – Tokyo Metropolitan Police have arrested four students from international schools over the alleged use of cocaine at a park in Minato Ward, reports the Mainichi Shimbun (July 24).

According to police, the students, four boys and girls of Japanese nationality aged 17 and 18, are alleged to have used cocaine in a toilet at the park, located in the Shiroganedai area, around March 26. A fifth youth, who is a British national, has also been arrested on the same charges.

Now that there is some good old fashioned sleuthing. How did you find that? Is that the school where the students went, or where the dealer worked?

Twitter feed is a goldmine. This seemed particularly pertinent:

In part, using google on the name given in the press “Franklin Singer” with useful modifiers like -Aretha & -Sinatra helped screen out false positives. And, the park ‘Shirokanedai Donguri Cocaine Paradise’ wasn’t too hard to identify.

Note however how the dates of the alleged offenses are all spaced out as well as the reported ages of the suspects. The reference to the kids, now reported to be between 17 & 18 snorting cocaine in the park washroom is March 2018; it’s not apparent whether they were observed at the time or it was a disclosure that came out after interrogation. The search and seizure after they left the Roppongi club was May 2018. And, the release of these details was July 24th. Frankie K Singer turned 20 last December 19th. Not just the age 20 threshold but there are differences in juvenile criminal law for ages 14 , 16 ... makes me think perhaps the discovery process isn’t as clear and clean as the police care to admit.

And, whatever happened to Edward James Montague Reid, the former SONY IR Officer & former NOMURA employee nabbed last year for a large stash of cocaine, meth, almost half kilo of weed, and 750 MDMA tablets? He’d make his rounds even on bicycle around Roppongi according to the news reports and did a fair bit of transactions in bitcoin.

Two guesses.

Frankie’s name was on Eddie’s list or a though a friend of a friend ( or friend of a dealer ). Or he got ratted out.

Eddie’s family is connected enough with money and influence so actual prison time is going to be insignificant. Or and early return to the UK. Perhaps in exchange for another former NOMURA employee and convicted felony rapist Takehiko Ogihara 荻原武彦 for whom you could find numerous news articles in English earlier this year after he was sentenced:

Frank Rodway took a flight from Mali, West Africa and landed in Tokyo, Japan, where he was found with 2.1 kilograms of amphetamines in his bags. Anyways, if he provides access to his emails, unless he was patient and crafty enough to create months long correspondence of faked emails with the Nigerian 419-type scammers, it should be easy to figure out whether he really was duped into being a mule ... or he knew what he was doing...or set up by his daughter even.

There’s apparently a reason why those 419 scam letters are often so ridiculously obvious .... by sending out hundreds of thousands...millions... they only want people who have extraordinary levels of stupidity and gulibility.

Even if he was fooled, it’s a reminder that the constant annoying question one gets all the time when traveling “ did you pack your own bags?” isn’t something to be ignored.

Yes! I'd never realised that but it makes perfect and complete sense. You don't want to be attracting people only for them to twig and start making umwelcome noise. Make the bait plainly dishonest so anyone who is attracted is really the dumbest in creation and/or completely blinded by greed. Far better.
