A number of others told me they also left because of this one member. I drastically slowed down too, for the same reason. Until we were blessed with his hiatus a few years back, every single day, the "new posts" feature showed a long list of threads, and almost without exception the "last post" column showed the same individual's name on every single thread. It got very boring.

My forehead still hurts from the facepalm when I was accused of attempted mass murder for suggesting there was no reason to flee Tokyo due to life threatening radiation, even several weeks after the Fukushima meltdown. Similar stupidity carried on for years. Careful what you wish for.. it could be even worse than it is now.

I think the problem was that some people took him seriously. He definitely provided entertainment value for me. But yes, he did drive away some very valuable members, and that is very regrettable.

Um, are you referring to Coligny as 'driving away' other posters? I'd say your description of his posts is that of Takechanpoo and McTojo with a bit of Kurogane thrown in as well. SamuraiJerk got bored and "Last visited: Fri Jan 25, 2019 6:13 am" but last posted on Thu Nov 17, 2016.

Kurogane went back to the Real World. He briefly returned to Japan in 2018 for a ""Very Big and Very Secret Project but I guess that didn't pan out (or his Secret Project was wildly successful and he doesn't have time for us plebes).

It is interesting to look at the top 50 posters on the FG and see that most of them still frequently lurk here but they are too shy to post any more, saaaa.

Many of the FG can still be found on Twitter (I was banned, grr) with Mulboyne's rationale that Twitter gives a bigger audience while having tools to "curate" the feed. There must be other FG hiding incognito on Reddit but unlike Twitter, former FGs on Reddit do not self-identify and they fade in and out with ever changing user names.

I hear you. But he was far from being self-aware and self-deprecating for a long time. If I recall, borderline brushing up against forum rules about personal attacks, but never went over the line where any mods felt that a ban could be justified. Despite requests from multiple users. I know at least 2 heavy users / regular posters that explicitly told me they left because of his attacks and overuse of the system (2 is all I can remember this many years later), and several others who I suspect left for the same reason.
