29 degrees and humid near midnight up there it appears. The SweatOlympics are coming to a capitol near you. O-mo-te-na-shi. Good luck with that evaporative cooling fairytale.

Been weeding in the garden at 40°C today. One way to lose weight.

Do those really work? I've noticed a lot of working sorts wearing them this year in particular.

Thanks bunches, Matsuki  but I am as good as through with it now. A huge insect, must have been a giant mutant ninja wasp or something, tried to defend its home that I was about to destroy. Bit me countless times, even through leather gloves, and those stings did hurt like hell. But I did stand my ground and in the end, I was the bigger mutant and the insect went to look for another mansion.

How do these vests work? My usual evaporation cooling measures didn't bite, as the humidity was so high that the air couldn't suck enough humidity to get a decent evaporation going.

So the evap vests work great BUT the issue is the humidity here greatly reduces their effectiveness. That is UNLESS you have enough airflow to make up for it. (on a bike, scooter, or even just a windy day) There are also a lot of crap products to watch out for. I've tested all of them, what you want is something that uses HyperKewl Plus fabric. (They do OEM for Harley, BMW, and have their own branded gear)

Those fan jackets that are popular here simply circulate hot air so unless you are already sweating, they are just silly. Use an evap vest underneath though, and you have a very effective combo.

The other type of vest that works are PCM...it's like wrapping an insulated vest filled with ice around you.....only that it's not ice, lasts 2-3 hours, it's lighter than ice, and usually 14℃ so it's cooling you, not freezing you. (PCM also freezes below 14℃ so freezing in the fridge or a cooler filled with ice, not the freezer is possible) Downside with these is they are more expensive and cumbersome but all the F1 drivers swear by them.

Do you have enough space in the garden to drive an F1 car?

Offroad-capabilities of F1 cars are questionable and they usually have no winch to get themselves out of the compost-pile.

I am glad you are continuing to enjoy Simon and Martina's verbal ejaculations.

Do they have anything to say about approaching Super-Big Mega-Typhoon Number 10 ("Dave" or "Betty" or "Manuel" or whatever it's called in gaikoku countries)? I'd check myself but don't want to risk the VPL.

Those tattoos are incredibly ugly. No thought to location , composition or theme at all. Complete mess. And then they show them off with sleeveless clothes and thrusting their arms at the camera.

That said, they probably earn a lot more money than me, so who's the mug eh?

Well on the plus side, you can wake up each morning safe and happy in the knowledge that you are not Simon.

Edit: here's a thought, maybe one day they'll try a trip to an Otaru onsen.

That's true. Simon is not a lucky fellow. If I had an onsen I would definitely refuse entry to the pair of them on the ground their stupid tattoos look so crap. My gaff, my rules.

Actually, I haven't explored their oeuvre. Have they inflicted themselves on an onsen yet?

Rather than caring about "Atsuiii", maybe we should start worrying about the coming typhoon no. 10. It seems they predict some 900mm rain in some places.

Like here. The eye of the storm is expected to go right over us, but I think the mountains of central Shikoku will take most of the rain.

Noticed that little tropical storm passing by the other day. Got a bit of wind and chop from it, but since it was the third such storm to pass by recently, glad to see it gone.

I'll pass thank you. Apparently they are called sleeve tattoos and they are extremely popular with young folk. Anyway, I read an entertaining article explaining that this was nothing like the sailors/oilfield trash/soldiers of my extended youth who got drunk in various ports and added tattoos to their arm at random. Oh no, one has to sit down and wrack one's brains for a list of things and people that really mean something to one (this process is called thinking deeply) and then get them all put on your arm in a series of sessions at your friendly local tattooists.

There are some exceptions but the end result almost always looks dreadful. A random collection of objects and names not particularly well drawn and drawn with little to no sense of composition. "You had a banana put on your wrist LOL!"

Perhaps a good time to buy shares in the market leading laser removal company. A lot of the oilfield trash who were by then earning great money were spending great chunks of it in Harley Street on laser removal. With varying degrees of success but there isn't a lot of choice.

As a designer, I can appreciate some nice ink but that steaming pile of unicorn shit (and other random garbage sleeves) just comes across like a "I'm damaged" warning to me. That being said...

As I said there are exceptions - even if I still think his arm would look better without it or wearing a real sleeve. But yes, I can see the artistry and craft in that.

The vast majority are nothing like that though and look really horrible. One of the Facebook groups I am a member of features people holding objects they have found in Thrift Stores. These are nice, quite interesting and I assume well balanced people but their sleeve(ish) tattoos look awful.

Checking my phone to see, whether I should do some gardening this afternoon, I got a wonderful surprise:

Wow, how nice, probably no need for weeding, then.
Going to look for my ice cleats now...

The app is "Today Weather." Not sure what they were smoking today
