Cold comfort: Tokyo Olympic planners test fake snow to beat the heat
The Japan Times | Sept. 13, 2019
Tokyo 2020 organizers blasted volunteers with fake snow on Friday as they trial ever more extreme methods to beat the heat ahead of the games.
But instead of light fluffy snowflakes, the crowd, consisting mainly of Tokyo 2020 staff, was pelted with fairly coarse shards of shaved ice at a canoeing test event...
fake-snow.jpg
...One problem became immediately apparent after the volunteers were doused in 300 kilograms (650 pounds) of snow in a matter of minutes: the “spectators” were quickly soaked through and the floor became slippery — resulting in one journalist taking a tumble.

Tokyo 2020 Olympics organisers test snow machine to beat the heat
BBC News, 13 September 2019
...
Takashi Okamura, head of communication, command and control on the organising committee, told the BBC the result was "not as expected", but said the snow had other merits.
"The advantage of this machine is having a spray device to help the audience feel refreshed - and the amusement factor."

Would be a great practical joke to have this machine spew out yellow snow...

Tokyo, host of the 2020 Olympic Games, is considering proposing to start the marathon and race walking events as early as 3 a.m. to counter an IOC decision to move the races to Sapporo due to worries about heat, Kyodo news agency said on Thursday.

An official at the Tokyo metropolitan government's Olympic preparation bureau told Reuters he was not aware of such a plan.

Coming across a bunch of negative opinions on the webs about the new Olympic Stadium stadium after opening. Underwhelming design, narrow corridors, obstructed sight-lines, no legroom, rows of seats too long and such.

I'm still more surprised by the optimistic expectations of furriner hoards coming here to spend their money. Hotels in Tokyo sold out a long time ago and methinks they aren't exactly booked solid with foreigners...but sure, ramp up the marketing overseas....for Olympic games that tickets are not available for, in Tokyo where you will not find accommodation.

You are right strictly speaking but what's wrong with a bit of artistic licence? And is not beauty its own rationale? And was there not a knowing post modern type reference to the previous Games?

Or am I missing the point and it's just Public Broadcasting BBC Bad!

Perhaps you are only talking to young people? When I first lived here the first time in the mid 80s, Japan still looked a bit like that.

And so It begins...

Shizuoka Broadcasting Photographers Infected Olympics Pre-camp Athletes Coverage
New coronavirus

Asahi.c0m {Machine translation} July 2, 2021 21:42
Shimada City, Shizuoka Prefecture, announced on the 2nd that a reporter who interviewed the Singapore table tennis team during the pre-camp for the Tokyo Olympics was infected with the new coronavirus . The city decided not to be interviewed in the future due to the intention of the team.
Shizuoka Broadcasting System (SBS) revealed on the same day that male photographers in their thirties from the news production bureau interviewed locally became positive. According to the company and the city, the cameraman covered the practice that was released at the gymnasium in the city on June 29th. Although there was no fever at the time of the interview, he also participated in an interview with the director and one player by the press. However, it is said that the team and city officials are not close contacts because they wore masks and kept a certain distance and it was a short time.
According to the company, he also confirmed the infection of a male director in his thirties who did not accompany the interview. The two act together on the 28th program location. The director had a fever of 38 degrees or higher on the 29th, so the two underwent a PCR test and were found positive on the 2nd of this month. The cameraman is said to be asymptomatic.
During the training camp, the team is taking measures against infection by the "bubble method" that goes back and forth between the hotel and the practice venue . So far, no positives have been confirmed.

...going to fizzle out before it starts. Sponsoring many athletes, I wanted to get to some of the events for some photos but zero chance of that. Asked a pro photog to do so in my place and was told any pics taken are likely to be treated like top secret classified documents and you will only get permission to use after the JOC and IOC run a full spit and train on you.

No recognition of the knowing, ironic reference to the last Tokyo games games then?

Actually, I think they are largely right but isn't that perhaps true of everywhere? Including the image Japanese people have of Europe and the US?
