New CrapBot® from Japan, of course

Postby Taro Toporific » Wed Dec 11, 2019 6:22 pm

Gee why I am not surprised that my former employer of 20+ years, Hitachi along with Denso)have announced a robot that stamps 'hanko (corporate seals) on documents that most likely are just being emailed?
:keyboardcoffee:
Hitachi and Denso have announced a robot that stamps hanko on documents
itmedia.co.jp...
Denso Wave, Hitachi Capital, and Hitachi Systems announced on December 11 a service that uses robots and RPA to automate the stamping of contracts. The aim is to improve the efficiency of stamping work in financial institutions and local governments where contracts and invoices are not digitized. Scheduled to be offered on a monthly basis from March 2020.
Consisting of two DENSO WAVE robot arms, the “COBOTTA” and a camera is connected to a PC can stamp a company seal attached to the tip of the arm and turning the pages of the document. The mechanism photographs a document with a camera , identifies a stamp field each time a page is turned and digitally records the process...

Lack of vision, convoluted band-aid fixes on the outdated....saaaa

I was at a trade show recently and this massive J-company was proudly showing me this backyard engineered rail cart that was powered by a Makita power tool. I mean, neat if you're a railway repair worker that has no budget but....this was on display at this trade show as if it's cutting edge tech.

「ロボット大国」と言われる日本。。。

`Robotto taikoku' to iwa reru Nihon...
Japan is said to be a “robot power”. . .

That's an interesting Japan-ism like, "Only Japan has four seasons."

The claim that Japan has the greatest number of robots in industry of any country is just a little fib that METI made up by counting everything as a "robot": a CNC router, an NC lathe, a train ticket machine, etc.
Normally to call something a "robot" means it must be: programmable, autonomous, and built to be adaptable for somewhat universal uses.
Japan calls a high-end rice cooker with a few ICs in a restaurant a "robot", sheesh.

Yes, most furriners believe the hype  but sadly, so do the locals

I remember some local show, displaying some sort of ancient wind up toys, claiming they were the first robots and the roots of Japan's "robot culture."
