Photoshop

Postby jasper » Thu Jan 29, 2004 10:23 am

Hi,

Been away for a bit but just hope everyone is having a nice day. Now my question/post - does anyone happen to know the best, cheapest, easiest way to get Photoshop (7.0, 8 or the new CS) for Windows in Japan.

Its for the the wife you see. It can be English or Japanese version, English preferred - though it will run on Japanese OS. Preferably downloadable. I have been looking around some sites with people reselling but dont know if I can trust the "never been opened, only $100 or $200"

Any advice for me and my ilk.

Thanks, Jas

PS: Sorry if this has been addressed before, but this site is getting big and hard to search for little things like this -- if so please redirect me.

Thank you CS,

Have Elements - seems not to be enough as her horizons expand (actually doing some good label designs for my company). Something about "tubes" and other graphic design stuff I dont much know about.

But I want to get it for her! Thanks,

Isn't there an upgrade from Elements to standard Photoshop? That shouldn't cost too much.

CS, Again thanks,

No upgrade from Elements. Upgrade from 7.0 to CS from Adobe is $169 but from the lesser programs there is no getting into actual Photoshop by upgrade or patch. Still looking around since she wants/needs it. Personally I'd rather spend some money to see Samurai tonight.

Thanks, for any input everyone and all.

Or buy "used" versions from Amazon from absurdly low prices such as $29

I'm told that The GIMP otherwise known as the GTK+ Image Manipulation Program is the fashionable one to use for production quality graphics. It's 100% free as well.

I'll say this,
It's easier to mix and match OSes with Macintosh than it is with Windows. On my English MacOS, I can run Japanese language programs and on my Japanese MacOS, I could run English language programs with NO PROBLEMS.

I've heard horror stories about mix and match like that with Windoze

It runs on Linux, Windows, BSD, even AmigaOS.

Here's the windows version.

Actually, OSX is multi-lingual. All it takes is a cliick to "System Preferences>International" and you can change the language of the OS to one of about 15 different languages. Inputting foreign languages is a breeze as well.

When I picked up my new iBook everything was in Japanese, but a quick tweak and a restart was all I needed to get everything in English. (I got an English keyboard on it as well, as Japanese keyboards really mess me up. Moving a few keys around and adding some extra ones plays hell with your "shortcut reflexes.")

Adobe is a pain in the arse to purchase from. Most companies are not allowed to ship the English version here - in fact their support will tell you that you should order it and send it to a friend in the states - and ask them to send it to you.

Don't bother trying to buy the English version in a shop here - they are usually two versions behind and double the price.

AMEM! I've got several 20-to-99 seat licences Adobe's products and they STILL won't give/sell me an English version. Other companies like Norton and TrendMicro are as sweet as pie to me about giving me one English version to go with my seat licence (hell, even evil Microsoft does). I'm spending millions with Adobe Japan, not all my seat licences are being used and they make me get "dark-gray" market copies of everything in English. Sheesh.
