I got a tat... and I've had it for about 10 years. Back in Canada loads of people have 'em... but here in Japan still there are too many people with a problem with them so I'm not surprised anyone asks you about it. People ask me about mine all the time. And the girls, soon as they hear I have one, always want me to take off my shirt and show it (it's on my back). Tats are cool but I have been kicked out of Spa World Osaka because of it.

tattoos are not my cup o' tea.. I think to subject yourself to tattooing is silly as your taste will change over the years. I think you should select your tattoo carefully.. as you'll live with it probably for the rest of your life..

Do you want a skull and bones at 90? I don't know.. but for me the permanence issue is more than I am willing to invest.

Yak tats are really too unsightly... I think when you do it up too much you just become a freak.

I'm the same way. I think 99% of people who get tattoos secretly regret after a few years. Glad I never got one. Why mess with perfection?

You are fine, you made a decision now be proud of it! Your tattoos I think are fine.. nothing that can be dasa later on..

But they do need "retouched" as you age.. your skin will get thinner and the ink will fade.. so you'll need to go back and get them colored over.

My brother has two and my mom even has one.. I just didn't see the point.

I have to agree with the earlier post here, if a gaijin ask about your tattoo, they're trying to pick-up on you. (men OR women, it don't matter).
I'm big into the tattoo scene, and I've noticed that tattoos carry heavy weight here in Japan; likely because of their generalized cultural link to Yakuza.
I've actually gotten in trouble here because Yakuza tattoos are rich in symbolism, some of which can be found in my tattoos by mere coincidence. Try explaining to a serious-looking mafia fella why you have a dragon with five fingers/toes on your back. It's not fun.
But those jokers aside, I encourage tattoo artist to continue their trade. And to those who disagree; try not to think of it as scaring something holy, but rather expressing art on a living canvas.
