Finally, a toilet bowl that cleans itselfthe Journal Sentinel / Feb. 8, 2004
Dan Tungett, a sales representative for Toto, a Japanese plumbing manufacturer, says his company's $5,000 Neorest toilet is for the "demanding" consumer.
Q. Why the Neorest?
A. It's the first toilet that interacts with you. You do not have to touch this toilet to experience it. As you approach it, it actually notices that you're there. The lid raises, and it will expose a heated seat. You can control the temperature of the seat. It also washes you, it dries you and, actually, if you forget to flush and you walk away, it will flush by itself, and the lid will close by itself. It cleans itself - there's a rinse cycle. Also, all the while you're sitting down, there's a deodorizing fan that's actually pulling odors out of the bowl, sending it through a fan and dispensing clean air into the room.
Q. Why would people need this?

My utterly ancient 3 year old Toto with its butt-sprayer, minus ion fart zapper, bun warmer and assfan was state of the art in its time but lacks the (now standard) auto-up lid and wireless wall mounted remote controls. Lord knows I've laid enough test cable in the Takashimaya and Mitsukoshi cans to know that this is no assing fad.

Actually those "wireless wall mounted remote controls" are very handy out on my farm when we installed our first flush toilet last year. The wireless wall mount means you can clearly see the color LED control panel to better conduct the Dancing Waters(tm).

Then again, out on the rice ranch in Shikoku we're really hi-touch 'n' hi-tech. Hell, we even covered the rammed earth floor in the kitchen with concrete 10 years ago and we've got a state-of-the-art CO monitor for our charcoal-fired kotatsu. (Really)
