So I recently bought a used slot machine on mercari, was shipped chakubarai, and was this whole big hassle to get it. When I went to unbox it, there were a few ants on the outside of the box. The machine inside was wrapped in plastic, ants were only on the outside, so seemed to be all good. Unfortunately, after 3 flights of stairs and opening up the machine, all was not so good after all. The main board was a full on ant farm, complete with eggs, queen, etc.
Still shot doesn't really convey the thousand of very very tiny ants but take my word for it, it was an armada that flowed out like a tsunami when the door was open. I did my best with the vacuums and ended up carefully drilling some holes into the plastic board covers to snake a straw in and suck as many ants/eggs up as possible.
So I can't send pics on the platform but I explained what happened to the seller and guy claims it was impossible as the machine was "thoroughly inspected" before shipping. There is no way you could miss the mass of eggs on the bottom and they take 3-4 weeks to hatch so in short, the guy is full of it. Then he tells me "well, it's used so...sorry, no claims, no returns." I push for a refund and they refuse to accept it. Then proceeds to tell me to fuck off and sue him if I have a problem. Mercari wasn't much help, they won't take any action unless I return the unit at my expense....at which point I'll be out shipping back and forth, plus cost of a new box and packing materials. It's like 4X the cost of the item and just not worth the hassle, time and money. Machine seems to be in working order so I'm fine keeping it, just really pissed how much time and effort it was to deal with the ant invasion. Usually in cases like this, sellers will offer a few thousand yen refund to make up for the trouble and I would have been fine with that but this guy is just a straight up jerk.
Seller claims to be an independent, single person operation but the package was shipped from a fairly large truck/van dealer waaaay on the other side of the country in the inaka. Return address is the same. My guess is the guy works there as he was quick with the threats about business defamation (meanwhile he's using the company name/address to make sales) I've already put the company on blast anywhere online it's registered and allow customer reviews. I don't have the guys name so no way to call him out at the company but I assume one of the reviews will eventually be noticed. Any other suggestions to turn on the heat??
