I'll stick to my Super 8 thank you. ImageImage

---Actually, I just use my MPEG functionality of my still digicam since stacks of 512mb CF cards are available at work: I'd just storyboard series of rapid 90sec scenes for the frenetic feel here in the Land-o-Concrete(tm).

you can do a lot with them 8mm cams! in fact, they have a certain look. on national geographic "explorer" they have a bunch of cutaway footage from 8mm.

yeah 30K is a lot of yen, but 15K ain't bad when you can make your money back on a single gig! everything after that is gravy.

the exciting thing is that HD was formerly like 100K for a varicam. now the kids are doing it.

keep your eyes open for HD stuff when you bebop down to laox. i always love the different toys you can get over there.

i gotta pretty phresh MD recorder there last time i was there.

it's funny you mention MPEG on still cameras to generate movies. the resolution is VERY high but the stills can't be taken fast enough at super high quality, but you can take one often enough to do a stop motion deal with an HD frame size. it's importable into certain video programs, i believe.

the guys at eMotion studio are doing some unique stuff using this technique. so you may be on to something. this is an interesting topic to me...that is, hacking to make pretty moving pictures that look good on a big ass screen.

wait. how big is your frame for the 90 second clip? resolution?

i wonder if there are there any still cams that take PCMCIA chips yet? panasonic is going to release the "tapeless" camera using that storage technology....

GETS slam-bang-thank-ya-ma'am' video

It's a slam-bang-thank-ya-ma'am' video tech for less than $200.

MPEG-4, SVGA, full-motion 30fps, 8x optical zoom

With a handful of 512mb CF cards and my TiBook I can swap, pound the slot like a Filipino Box Spring Hog.

Yep, sounds like we're, "Cooking up a Filipino Box Spring Hog".

"Get's FUGUed"

"Get's FUGUed" will be my first attempt in the 640 x 480 format....and yes, that badass little device slips in my shirt pocket.

But what I really need is a Pongi Helmet Cam(tm) to capture to true beauty of Japan that I see everyday on my way to work. I've got an iSight and a iPod but there's no MPEG encoding "interface/plug" to connect the two, sheesh. :(

taro,
that's a fuckin' genius idea! ipod + ipod. i never thought of that. to add to the potential, you should be able to hook it up to your bluetooth phone and have a live-cam straight from the pongi's helmet.

i agree, we need to hook up more gear to the pongi's head. a GPS, cell phone antennaes (the ones with the blinking neon) and a small satellite dish would be awesome! :)
