How much sushi can you eat?

Postby Alcazar » Wed Feb 18, 2004 11:21 pm

I found this site the other day for 'competitive eating' which you no doubt have heard of regarding the Japanese 'food-fighters' etc. Anyway, this guy in the US has the sushi eating record. American Oyaji, do you want to tell us about your secret life? :o :hehe:
Image

He ate 15.5 feet of sushi in 30 mins. Wow. Sushi always looks deceptively lightweight, like it won't be enough, but it's so filling.

When I was 16, I was with my friends at McDonalds where we saw who could eat the most. I won at 1 large milkshake, 1 large fries, and six big macs. I still don't like to have big macs after that stomach stretching experience...........

I had sushi for lunch and I am still full. I only had 4 plates - the small ones - at kaiten-zushi... It is really filling.

How could that guy eat 15 feet worth? Gross!!

How could he afford "15 feet" which has to be at least 30-40 plates, 3 pieces to a plate?

Me, oh I normally eat 8 plates of 3 pieces but I've eaten 20 after climbing Mount Fuji. :P

I just recently ate 18 pieces at a kaiten. Since I wasn't particularly hungry, I bet I could do twice that if I were prepared. Anyone want to challenge me (Nagoya region)?
I guess it depends on the kind, as well. Unagi seems to be more filling, for example...

I had sushi for lunch today too-only 6 pieces with smoked salmon, avacado, cucumber and mayonaise (I know it's not traditional, but I like it). I haven't eaten since then either, amazing how satisfying it is.

Time for some pasta at 1.25am! I better not make too much noise and disturb my parents....

I have never ate sushi before, i know its raw fish, but can someone go into more detail about what else it has...also is it cold, room temp or heated up a bit? I'd like to try it and maybe I will have a chance next month, but just curious what im getting my self into since I've only had fish twice in my life (im 24).

Well, any fish in sushi is usually room temperature or maybe a bit cold if they have kept the sushi refrigerated before serving.

Get out and eat some more fish!!!!!!! It's really good for you.

It depends on what you're eating. Unagi is usally a little warm, and so is beef sashimi or shirako. Most of the other types of sashimi are served at room temperature IIRC (I'm usually too drunk to notice), but the fish themselves are stored on ice until they're cut for serving (notice I said ON ice... I've never seen them stored in an ice box or under ice bags).

Kaiten sushi is the kick ass superbowl party of sushi LOL

Imagine, conveyor belt going round and round and little plates of sushi wizzing by on plates. YOu pull the plate off and a sushi boy or girl throws a nother on the belt.

Most of these joints are cheap as hell too.. like 100-500 yen per plate. And you have a table or a bar chair to sit at and pluck from the belt.

You usually have green tea as a free service, with ginger, wasabi, wetnap (use before eating LOL) and two kinds of sauce (sweet and not sweet soy sauce).

There are all kinds of little sushi dishes.. I have seen meatball sushi, weiner sushi with ketchup, fried shrimp, tuna salad, ham, teriyaki chicken, sukiyaki, and so on.

The list just goes on and on. Though those are strange. The more normal dishes are squid (ika), octopus (tako), salmon with mayo and onions, fatty red tuna (maguro), sea urchin (uni), Unagi and Asago (eel and fresh water eel)etc...

My personal favorites are uni, hamachi, kampachi, tai, etc.. but those are kind of rough on non-sushi lovers. :D

Hell I have even seen natto sushi eww.. and anchovy sushi.. amongst others. Sorry to say but I wont touch either one.
But sushi is just fish and seafood that is sliced thin and stuck on a bed of rice that has some special seasoning (I think vinegar and some other things).

Sashimi is just raw fish on a plate with a heap of wasabi, some kind of radish that has been hit with a salad shooter, and some little red leaves or something.. I dunt know what you call it off hand.. but it kicks ass with a cold glass of Asahi Superdry, and a plateful of sashimi, I am all set.
:D

That is my rundown of the sushi/sashimi scene in Kansai.

For 15 ft of food, that guy probably had 15 ft of shit coming out of him. And if not, he can always resort to my favorite colon cleanser: COLON BLOW!! :D

Colonblow works like this. In 24 hours, your body is given the opportunity to expel months, even years of 'sludge' that stays impacted in your colon. Suggested use for best results, take Colonblow as a dietary supplement for 3 meals, that's it.
