The population of Tokyo reached a record high 12,378,974 as of Jan 1, up by 89,455 over 2002, the Tokyo metropolitan government said Tuesday.
The three inner-city wards of Chiyoda, Chuo and Minato boosted their combined population to 292,142, metropolitan government officials said. The number of registered foreign residents in Tokyo came to a record high 355,289, with Chinese comprising the largest group, followed by North and South Koreans and Filipinos.
