OSAKA, Japan
- Osaka Gov. Fusae Ota ... to halt awarding a prefecture-funded prize to the winner the Spring Grand Sumo Tournament to open in Osaka... the refusal by the Japan Sumo Association to let women enter the ''dohyo'' wrestling ring is ''unfavorable'' from the point of view of gender equality.

I'm absoloutely for gender equality in rights, payment and this likes but why can't some people accept thats it a psychological and physical fact that there are things what (most) woman can't (do well / at all) and also things that men can't (do well / at all).
Where is the point of whining for some Sumo 'dohyo' wrestling ring entering... please tell me (and don't come with principles please. People running after nonsense principles are unhappy people with nothing else to do ?!)

The point on Sumo is, why should taxpayer's money support something that's discriminatory?

Its not even about a woman competing.

Its the fact that she as Gov isn't permitted to enter the dohyo to present the prize. Usually the Gov enters the dohyo to give it.
I will not abide ignorant intolerance just for the sake of getting along.

It's OK you thought they wanted to wrestle - it's what we deal with in Western countries. The dohyo is the circle where the fighters wrestle. No women is allowed in this circle, why? no good reason, just old fashioned thinking.

Sumo is slowly dying because the leadership refuse to change with the times. And also, what kid in their right mind wants to subject themselves to the old fashioned, degrading, and brutal training the sumo must undergo. They make them eat buckets of chum to bulk up.

Hey! Greased up, nearly naked women wrestling in a ring has been a sport here in the US for quite some time now, and maybe the Japanese women should form their own wrestling association for competition! Just think about it! They could create their own honor rituals, like the pre-fight oiling of the fighters or the pre-battle offering of jiggles to the gods! Thongs are still a must though as the fighters do need some way to get a hold on each other and hair-pulling is dishonorable!

If women were to compete they could always wear pink fuzzy bird suits.
