Postby stolid_revenge » Tue Mar 16, 2004 1:49 pm

suuu--wEET!

just kiddin'. my friend can't play back mpeg 4 quicktime on his PC either, and he said, pretty much, the same thing as you. his pc is pretty slow though.

how 'bout a cold reboot? repair permissions, shut down, start up and see what happens.

i'm running QT 6.5. The movie runs in IE 5.2.2, Netscape 7.1, Safari 1.0.2. The video will not play back in Opera 6.0.3, unfortunately. I use Safari and IE usually.

bill gates doesn't make things easy with QT and PCs nowadays, unfortunately. don't have the drive space to rip real or .wmv files right now.

why QT?

keep in mind that cupertino is my home town.

been huffin' apple fumes a long, long time m'friend!

BTW, what is firefox? a viewer?

OK, we'll figger this out. Go to your Quicktime control panel (the mac term is system prefs>Quicktime). Click on the MIME settings button. Turn down the triangle for MPEG. Make sure MPEG 4 is checked.

Does that help?

Really, don't blame me...blame Bill.

Maybe I can get Rob to post these to his site as well.

That is a crack-up. The funniest thing, I think, is the "subtext" going on in the background.

There's this heinous Danish dude on the left side of the frame totally pawing Pongi's ex-old lady, Miss Emi -- right in front of him and on camera. About half way thorough the clip, it's touchy feely central---EWWWW....

I call him, "The Lecherous Dane". More than likely, "fucked". There is actually an interview with he and the aforementioned ex-paramour.

I'm sorry that I've spoiled the clip for you--you'll never watch it the same way again! heh heh 8O...

dude man, that was the app,"soundtrack". this comes bundled with fcp 4. i composed the royalty-free track in about 15 minutes. it's so rockin'. i like ST 'cuz i can break something out faster than trying to find it in a sound library. great fun-yo!

This video is the reason I think RobPongi.com rocks! Sure the other videos are great, but the thing that got me hooked was the conversations with people, thats where the true magic happens.

quote Rob: "so you like foreigners? from what country?"
Girls: "From England, where are you from?"
Rob: "umm...im from London, YEAH!!!!"

best line ever!

Hmm... Just curious, but is there a way to find downloadable video files on other sites that have stream-only movies?

I really hate stream video, and sometimes they hardly work at all

I tried to "view source" on the page, but that wouldn't work and I'm curious to how you can find videos like that.

Thanks for that handy link.

I finally got it to play in Firefox. I previously only had the Browser Plug-in MIME type set to mp4,mpg4, but not the general File Type Association. I selected mp4,mpg4 for general File Type Associations and now it plays fine. So there are two tabs which have to have this MIME type setting: 1) Browser Plug-in>MIME Settings and 2) File Type Associations>File Types.

Hello Senor Pongi,

How's the weather in SW Tokyo today. Here in SF we are having a nice little heatwave.

Rob Pongi wrote:Well, maybe but IMHO I think that the problem is spelled "B-I-L-L G-A-T-E-S" and, as you know, he didn't write the book he wrote the closed source code.

heh heh, just kiddin' UG. i have "gets" access to the pongi vault and will continue to unleash the hidden pongi for all to experience. at least until i am gainfully employed. it's fun just to edit again as I've been writing for so long...

Image
the pongi vault

The NK stuff is funny and all, but I'm with Frost, I like the interviews and silliness on the street the best. I'll keep hackin' at those.

The feeling I got back about 4 years ago when watching the uncut VHS tapes with my friends was as if I was there with Rob, experiencing this weird version of "Insomniac".

Have you guys seen "Insomniac" in Japan? It's like Rob Pongi, but "different". Maybe you can rent his "uncensored" DVD in Japan. Look for it or get it on Amazon. He's hilarious--he does this "all night long party to the blue sky" show (rob's premise as well) in a different weird place every week.

There are some clips here.

I IS a video editor zen buddha master 6 times over.

I ain't anything beyond a web video simpleton.

Image
i slice - i dice - like a mofo'

I use sorenson squeeze. I drag 'n drop the QT movie into a window and hit the GO button for 320 X 240 MPEG 4. That's about as much as I want to worry about it.

Beyond 'dat - it is a Windoze thang--for PC and QT, you'll have to lash everything together with spit and gum. IOW, download QT and set your browser to accept QT MPEG 4.

Bill ain't gonna do that for you--it is he that is the heartless bastard. I'm a simple mac man - I'm sorry that QT is such a pain for ya'll. In PCs, you really have to force QT to work. If you don't wanna go through the pain - then it's back to crayolas I guess!

I just emailed him with that idea saying he should hook up with the pongi and the FG crew. (really!)

the best things about the amsterdam episode were the "Wheel of the Seven Deadly Sins" where you could spin and then Dave would go off and experience "Sloth" or whatever. The other big laugh was when they couldn't show Dave smokin' the bong, but cut back to him when he was hackin' his brain off - then he goes into this dream sequence and follows a milk maid into the field. She turns around and has ATTELL'S FACE -

NOOOOOOOOO!!

That was freakin' hilarious!

It's clips like this that make me regret not sticking around robpongi.com after initially stumbling across it via the Tito Ortiz interview.

Of course I know better now--all it took was a few seconds of on-screen Jen and Rob action to change my mind--but I've got to ask: how hard was it keeping a straight face while claiming to be from London?

That was just good stuff.

I think that was the climatic moment, where Rob robbed them of their true Brit man.. Notice how he slipped the "What's your Phone Number?" in LOL
