After reading the BBC story on the virtual girlfriend programme, I don't think it is such a bad thing for Japanese guys. The program responds differently according to the choices the guys make, so it in effect, trains them how to behave appropriately in talking to women. For J-guys who have no clue and who are too scared to build up their skills in reality, then this could be beneficial for them.
