I wonder, I seriously wonder if it will ever become the norm for anime to be released in its original language + subtitles in the US? Anime is really taking off, I have it on a strong authority that the US anime market is now bigger than the Japanese, and I am worried that it is locked into its current state of being both dubbed and hacked to bits.

Oh yeah, and most of the anime that comes over here is the bottom of the barrel pop stuff from Japan. Whatever, I don't pay attention to US anime releases anymore, but I do know that the fact that we are now the biggest market for it means its going to gradually lose its uniqueness.

I am a recovering anime junkie. I used to watch everything out there and actively scour IRC for the newest stuff constantly, but now I just listen to recommendations and watch the best of the best, and ignore the rest.

Oh, I just started watching the new (to me anyway) Gainax show Abenobashi Mahou Shoutengai. I love it, anyone else seen it?

Yeah, but if you want the subs and don't wan to get raped on the price (at least not as much), you have to wait for the American release, which doesn't have to be tied to the Japanese release in any way. That's the one thing that I am optimistic about the possibility of changing - the time between the Japanese release and the US release for DVDs.

World Premiere of TriStar Pictures' "COWBOY BEBOP: THE MOVIE"

Cowboy Bebop director, Shinichiro Watanabe, score composer, Yoko Kanno and character designer Toshihiro Kawamoto will be on hand to introduce the film. There will also be a Q&A session right after the screening!

I just hope they don't give Data Dog a different name.

That's right, I forgot his name was Ein (I thought it was just "Data Dog"). I could see the English version giving him the name "Einstein".

Too Late

Cowboy Bepop has been on Cartoon Network every Saturday night for a while now.

Not sure if they changed the dogs name. The story just ended recently and they started it from the beginning again and Ein is introduced this upcoming Saturday, I'll see what they call him.

Inuyasha started recently too. The Saturday Night line-up is

Inuyasha, Yu Yu Hakusho, Cowboy Bebop, Gundam 0083, Mobile Suit Gundam and then Outlaw Star

And during the week they show Zoids, G Gundam, Dragonball and Dragonball Z every day.

Of course its dubbed. Some of the stuff they come up with is BOGUS

You should see the visual editing they do.

Master Roshi was drinking beer and they colored it blue and made him say he was drinking juice, I mean, you could SEE where they colored it.

And in then Roshi was doing a Drunken Fist technique and they flashed a graphic saying Mad Cow Technique and had painted pictures of cow's over anthing recognizeable to American kids as alcoholic....but i sure saw the sake flasks and sake cups they didnt cover up.

It sucks.

But it beats nothing I guess.

Cant wait to go back to Japan.
I will not abide ignorant intolerance just for the sake of getting along.
