My brother-in-law's friend graduated Waseda, got his teaching credentials, and taught middle school English for a year. Got tired of the sempai bullshit, bailed, and is now teaching at Japanese companies for more money.

If you have talent, why waste it on tomorrow's salarymen and obaatarians? :?:

How can teachers expect students to master Engrish, when they can't even do it?
:D

I laugh when I see a demonstration lesson, and the teachers are shaking in their slippers, trying to use Engrish in front of the class for the BOE, the principals, and on... and during these lessons the kids are lost, the teacher is shaking like crazy, and it is quite obvious that the teacher never uses Engrish in class...

Yet they put on a facade.. to make it look like they do... when in reality they never do.

If they'd switch to an all English curriculum for English classes, including writing, grammar, reading, and so on, not only would students improve, but the teachers would also.

My Spanish class in high school was taught in 100% Espanol.. no Engrish allowed....

My Japanese class was the same way.. yet I come to Japan, and expect the kids to be capable of Engrish communication... seeing as most start as ichinensei in JHS.. yet they haven't a clue or haven't practiced at all... due solely because the Japanese English teacher.

A sham/shame.

Same deal in Korea. We've got a batch of "English teachers" at my school who can't speak a word of it beyond a few simple phrases. Boggles my mind. I know some of them are teaching grammar by means of comparison, but that's not the way to learn a language.

I've got more than a couple 7th graders who can talk rings around my boss - and he also teaches English.
