Starting salaries for women beat men for first time

A white paper on working women published by Japan's Ministry of Labour reveals that in 2003, the average starting salary for female medical/science/technology graduates beat that for males for the first time, albeit by only Y200, at Y203,600 per month (US$1,921 at a rate of Y105.98).

The result apparently reflects a high proportion of female medical faculty graduates entering large retail and wholesale companies, which have comparatively high starting salaries.

Shouldn't they both be equal?
I think one gender's pay outweighing that given to the other, regardless of which one it is, would be sexist.
Of course, sexism NEVER applies when women have it better than guys.

Ideally, salary would be based on effort and sacrifice. It is not. Funny though, even before reading this, I knew that someone would come on blasting this grave inequality - even though it is the first time ever to happen.
