Give me the full deal on Japanese resumes

Postby Crispy » Sat Jun 28, 2003 2:15 am

I have heard a little about what the Japanese expect in a resume, something simple, small and chronological, but can I get the details? For English words, do they want katakana or romaji? What kind of language is in a Japanese resume?

We used to have hominid cousins that were vegetarian. The paleantological record suggests that our ancestors killed them and ate them.

EVEN JAPANESE FOLKS THINK Japanese resume SUCK....

Resume

Have you ever seen Japanese resume? When I started job hunting, I found big problems with it. Yeah, I must admit I was too innocent.... Starting from the left side. First, you have to fill out your name, sex, address & street number, phone number,...nd then, you have to paste the picture of yourself on the box 1.....picture? what for? even sometimes they ask marital status or spouse. ....Isn't this form discrimination???

The encirced numbers on the resume above mean
1. Mug shot
2. Address telephone number
3. Educational background employment history
4. Rewards and punishments qualification license
5. Hobby specialty
6. Desire motive
7. Job desired

i hear from native sources, that a handwritten resume is best in japan. handwriting shows character.

Yeap. You should buy "The Form" and always fill it out hand (which is the reason why online Japanese forms are rare). Penmanship counts in Japan, which means FG don't.

Another downside to handwritten resume is that you can't blanket the market with resumes during your job hunt. A Westerner looking to find a job would print out a hundred resumes and send them out in a mass mailing using the mail merge function. But writing them out individually takes a long time, limiting your ability to contact as many companies as you want.

That's why one should cheat by converting their own handwriting into a font.
