Beaten dogs

Postby ramchop » Mon Jan 05, 2004 4:29 pm

...anybody in their 30s or older who wasn't married and hadn't had kids was the same as a dog beaten in a fight that runs off with its tail between its legs.

She says that many women don't notice that the number of eligible bachelors disappears every year they get older and soon the only choices they're left with are whackos, toy boys, the married or foreigners.

BILINGUALOne day, Japan's 'losing dogs' will howl in unison
The Japan Times: April 15, 2004

.....disdainful language for losing-dog men. The aforementioned Aya bemoans the lack of ii otoko (lovable men) in this country, and is always threatening to move to Australia where the men outnumber the women. (She has high hopes that the long years of fierce competition have honed their romantic skills.)
Actually, ii otoko ga inai (there are no lovable men) is the losing-dog woman's perpetual gripe. Put two single women on a bench and one or the other will trot out this familiar complaint within the first 15 minutes.

...more than 80 percent of couples refrain from intimacy after a period of anywhere between 6 months to 2 years after the wedding and remain that way.

Dude! You left out the next line:

Aya sums up with a superior smile: "Personally, I think it's the married folks who are the losers."

I just had to look that stat up - she's right you know:
Map & Graph: People: Sex ratio (15-64 years)

153. Australia 1.02 male(s)/female

Somehow I don't think it'll improve her odds dramatically:
141. Japan 1.01 male(s)/female

But she could always hope they're all as desperate as Alcazar :P

Is there a special meaning attributed to the word "bloke" in Australia?
YBF is as ageless as time itself.--Cranky Bastard, 7/23/08

There is no such category as "low" when classifying your basic Asian Beaver. There is only excellent and magnifico!--Greji, 1/7/06

Yes, a "Bloke" is the one who knows all of his mates Birthdays, favorite beer/car/porno/pinup girl...etc, spends almost all freetime with his mates and who has a "little woman" (wife/girlfriend) at home cooking, washing, cleaning, you know "the domestic stuff" about who he knows less than bugger all. Gomi Girl's dream partner!

All cultures have them but the Aussie bloke is still hanging in a little too well, any one else is a POOF or not Ozstralian!! mate!

Or as I like to envision "The Sharon and Darren's". Darren is a bloke and is Sharons dreamboat guy. Darren has his mates...... and Sharon "the little woman" waiting at home. Nice image isn't it?

 Obviously some of you have not been in touch with contemporary Australian culture in a long time. I don't know how long you've been in Japan, but the culture you are describing is limited to a sadly under-employed outer-suburban underclass in 2004.

My post was taking the piss, but it does still exist. If you speak of "your" contemporary culture you are probably referring to the larger towns, and even then pockets thereof. If the whole of Australian was your "contemporary Australian culture" do you think the whole Pauline Hanson BS would have happened? The culture of chops and chips is still quite strong.

So Alcazar are we going to Summernats this year or not?

Blokes Down Under

Postby kurohinge1 » Sun Apr 25, 2004 11:30 am

Some girls quite like the blokes down under

In any event, here's some required reading about Aussie blokes from "John Mark Ministries" if Junko-chan wants to nampa in OZ:

1. The bigger the hat, the smaller the farm.

2. The shorter the nickname, the more they like you.

3. Whether it's the opening of Parliament, or the launch of a new art gallery, there is no Australian event that cannot be improved by a sausage sizzle.

4. If the guy next to you is swearing like a wharfie he's probably a media billionaire. Or on the other hand, he may be a wharfie.

5. There is no food that cannot be improved by the application of tomato sauce.

6. On the beach, all Australians hide their keys and wallets by placing them inside their sandshoes. No thief has ever worked this out.

7. Industrial design knows of no article more useful than the plastic milk crate.

8. All our best heroes are losers.

9. The alpha male in any group is he who takes the barbecue tongs from the hands of the host and blithely begins turning the snags.

10. It's not summer until the steering wheel is too hot to hold.

11. A thong is not a piece of scanty swimwear, as in America, but a fine example of Australian footwear. A group of sheilas wearing black rubber thongs may not be as exciting as you had hoped.

12. It is proper to refer to your best friend as "a total bastard". By contrast, your worst enemy is "a bit of a bastard".

13. Historians believe the widespread use of the word "mate" can be traced to the harsh conditions on the Australian frontier in the 1890s, and the development of a code of mutual aid, or "mateship". Alternatively, Australians may just be really hopeless with names.

14. The wise man chooses a partner who is attractive not only to himself, but to the mosquitoes.

15. If it can't be fixed with pantyhose and fencing wire, it's not worth fixing.

16. The most popular and widely praised family in any street is the one that has the swimming pool.

17. It's considered better to be down on your luck than up yourself.

18. The phrase "we've got a great lifestyle" means everyone in the family drinks too much.

19. If invited to a party, you should take cheap red wine and then spend all night drinking the host's beer.(Don't worry, he'll have catered for it).

20. If there's any sort of free event or party within a hundred kilometres, you'd be a mug not to go.

21. The phrase "a simple picnic" is not known. You should take everything you own. If you don't need to make three trips back to the car, you're not trying.

22. Unless ethnic or a Pom, you are not permitted to sit down in your front yard, or on your front porch. Pottering about, gardening or leaning on the fence is acceptable. Just don't sit. That's what backyards are for.

23. The tarred road always ends just after the house of the local mayor.

24. On picnics, the Esky is always too small, creating a food versus grog battle that can only ever be resolved by leaving the salad at home.

25. When on a country holiday, the neon sign advertising the motel's pool will always be slightly larger than the pool itself.

26. The men are tough, but the women are tougher.

27. The chief test of manhood is one's ability to install a beach umbrella in high winds.

28. Australians love new technology. Years after their introduction, most conversations on mobile phones are principally about the fact that the call is "being made on my mobile".

29. There comes a time in every Australian's life when he/she realises that the Aerogard is a darn sight worse than the flies.

30. And, finally, don't let the tourist books fool you. No-one EVER says "cobber" to anyone ... EVER!
