This is some scary shit. Why don`t we put Ashcroft on a 24 hour web cam. After all, we don`t know what he might be up to. :?

It`s funny how they are going apeshit about Worldcom but still haven`t come clean on what they knew and when about Enron. This could become bigger than the Lewinsky scandal.

Man, I could see all this shit coming back during the 2000 election campaign. Why didn't more people see that Bush was a closet fascist prior to the election? People are too easily persuaded by a slick TV ad or a good-old-boy's friendly charm. I swear, Bush must love Bin Laden, now that he has the chance to turn America into every conservative's wet dream: a police state.

Part of me is utterly disgusted by this, and yet another part of me wants to know how I can sign up. I bet that somewhere down the line I could really use this to my advantage. (I hope you know I'm kidding.)

What's scary about this is that, when I first read Snitch Report I just laughed and laughed because I thought it was so ridiculous and could never possibly happen. Well, they showed me. Never overestimate the paranoid.

Whispering Campaigns???

Postby GomiGirl » Sat Jul 27, 2002 7:26 am

The Bush Administration aims to recruit millions of United States citizens as domestic informants in a program likely to alarm civil liberties groups.

Does this sound like the "monitors" that were recruited during the Whispering Campaign of Cultural Revolution in China? George Orwell eat your heart out!!

Can you say, "Red Scare"? It's McCarthyism in the 21st century, baby! Instead of "pinko Commies", we have "fundamentalist terrorists". The enemy has gone from evil Russians to evil Muslims, from nuclear bombs to dirty bombs. People already seem afraid to voice an alternative opinion against, say, the Pledge of Allegiance or the War in Afghanistan. It started with American flag lapel pins and now is becoming a million-member spy organization. Like Rob, I'm looking forward to permanent residnce in Japan.

I'm hoping that the majority of U.S. citizens will not go with this one. I find it almost inconcievable that Americans could blindly agree -- and I think blindly is the only way any sane person would agree to something like this -- to a system they have seen villified so often in entertainment (and other places). My best guess: Bush is going to try a bunch of ridiculous shit like this and will get shot down every time (at least with things that blatantly go against individual freedoms)... thus reducing the chance of his re-election to nill.

After this presidential term, I think Americans are going to be damn tired of political bullshit and, hopefully, will elect some decently responsible and capable politician to rebuild our languishing socioeconomic system.

Of course... being a college student living in a strikingly left small town, I could be totally disconnected from average American political zietgeist. If these Orwellian shenanigans really do go down, I desperately hope Japan or Canada will take me as a citizen.

Like I've always said, you are more Alec Baldwin than www.salon.com/people/feature/2001/01/25/chpshot3/&hl=en&ie=UTF-8]Alec Baldwin.

That's right. Alec Baldwin is a wuss--at least I went through with my move. These other celebrities were just talking through their asses.
