scsi-firewire?

Postby jingai » Mon May 10, 2004 7:43 am

I'm considering getting a new laptop and a film scanner (Canon Canoscan FS4000 US). I have read that the scanner is twice as fast in SCSI mode, but don't think any laptops support SCSI. I saw that Belkin and other companies make a SCSI to firewire adapter

and was wondering if anyone had any experience with it.
Thanks!
Roger

Any kind of switch device is going to incur a performance hit.

I would think it would be easier to just plug in a SCSI PCMCIA card. You can get them dirt cheap and they work just fine.

I have a SCSI Dat tape attached to one of my Laptops with an Adaptec SCSI card.

Is it faster than FireWire? Or does your printer not offer that option?

Thanks Steve,
I didn't know these existed for laptops- I never had a laptop before and am used to desktops with lots of PCI slots.
I'll definitely consider this option- it looks better than buying an adapter.
