TOKYO:
North Korean leader Kim Jong-il may have been briefly admitted to hospital last year for treatment of intestinal problems, although he has now recovered, a Japanese newspaper reported yesterday.
The Tokyo Shimbun quoted "North Korean sources" in Beijing ... for treatment of "chronic intestinal inflammation".... the sources said Kim has long suffered from occasional digestive troubles accompanied by bloating and pain that force him to avoid certain foods.

Lion Hair Koizumi is going back to talk things over.

Link

TOKYO - Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi will travel to North Korea for wide-ranging talks with leader Kim Jong Il in hopes of winning the release of family members of Japanese citizens abducted decades ago, the government said Friday.

The talks will also include discussion of North Korea's nuclear weapons programs and other bilateral issues with the motive of eventually normalizing relations between the two estranged neighbors, Chief Cabinet Secretary Hiroyuki Hosoda said. Koizumi will go on May 22.

"The aim is to restore trust between Japan and North Korea," Hosoda said.

I wonder of Koizumi knows that song, 'Why can't we be friends, why can't we be friends'.

I knew it was the hair. Check out this http://news.bbc.co.uk/hi/english/world/asia-pacific/newsid_1293000/1293536.stm]BBC article.

Divorced and single, with flowing hair and striking looks, he was a far more colourful politician that the grey suits Japan's electorate was used to

At first the public appeared to love Mr Koizumi's dashing maverick image. And the prime minister made the most of it. He released a CD of his favourite Elvis songs, and recently crooned with US movie idol Tom Cruise.

He has been behind moves to send troops to Iraq, and has upset Japan's neighbours with annual visits to the Yasukuni shrine, which honours the war dead, including a number of convicted war criminals.

But domestically, Mr Koizumi's hair is still a powerful weapon, and should ensure his re-election
