Caught this guy about 2 hours ago on the Yamanote while headed from Shibuya to Shinjuku:

I guess that's one way to make sure you get a seat. I'd really like to see him try that at rush hour. :D

Postby omae mona » Sat May 08, 2004 11:57 am

This guy spent a little too much time shopping for cool Engrish t-shirts and not enough time learning how to use tickets & turnstiles in train stations.

I wonder if they still do this... It seems like this kind of 'fun' wouldn't be tolerated post 9/11.. (Pictures from 1998).

You've lost me there Guy. Why would 9/11 have any influence on these kind of photos?

Sorry, man. I meant paranoia and fear have killed various freedoms since 9/11.. It seems like breaking the law, by any foreigners in Japan, would be considered a 'threat', rather than simply just 'good fun'.

Hey, where are they selling those? I love 'em, though I had never thought of them as being "stick donuts made from corn"...

According to the caption at the top, they must have gotten permission from the Ministry of Anal Retentiveness that allows you to eat them while you are walking. I did not know that there was ANY snack food that came with permission to violate the sacred no-eating-while-walking rule. Then again, judging from the photo, maybe this snack is for gaijin only..

They are sold for CHEAP at the Costco in Japan for 160yen for a 25cm stick.

And here's a few more gaijin wannabes who could get a job at Costco Japan.

D'oh! I completely forgot. I ate one there. But it was stone-cold and didn't leave a lasting impression, I guess.

Off-topic... but that reminds me of weekend news. Costco shoppers beware... there was a salmonella outbreak on almonds in the U.S. that got distributed to 2-3 chains including Costco. Search google for news on the recall. I myself am the proud owner of poison nuts, right in my Costco closet! The friendly Tamasakai store manager said to bring them back for a no-questions-asked refund.
