I wanna a 22.2 channel audio system!!!!!

Postby Taro Toporific » Tue Jun 01, 2004 1:03 pm

UPDATE & ADDITION

Japan's NHK lifts lid on TV of the future
IDG.com, Singapore - 1 JuneJapan's public broadcaster Nippon Hoso Kyokai (NHK) opened its research and development (R&D) center to the public over the weekend and gave visitors a look at some of the technologies it is working on that may become part of broadcasting in the future....

...Engineers here have been working for several years on a successor to today's high-definition television that offers around 16 times the resolution of current broadcasts. The system, called Super Hi-Vision, offers a 16:9 aspect ratio picture with 4,320 horizontal lines or roughly 4 times the number of lines and 16 times the resolution of current high-definition television. It also has a 22.2 channel audio system...

Hot damn, I want a 22.2 channel audio system for my pimpmobile.

YES!
Hiroshi Yoshikawa has been working on 3D holovideo since the Dark Ages (1980s)....

bikkle's NK story wrote:NHK is studying the physical and psychological effects of UHDV on audiences. One concern is a kind of motion sickness

.....Recording the massive amounts of data needed to produce UHDV definition also posed a problem for NHK. Its engineers were originally only able to make 34 seconds' worth of recording. They have now built a disc recorder system made up of 16 HDTV recorder units with a capacity of about 3.5 terabytes (equivalent to about 750 DVDs), allowing them to shoot 18 minutes

I can just see the effects on Rob Pongi HAULING around 16 HDTV recorder units on his back in Shinjuku to take 18 minutes of platform pizza video....And think of the physical and psychological effects of THAT image on audiences. :crazy3:

Here's a artical that directly talks about costs. I wonder what kind of Magic Beans are being using at Sony since they are not known for selling stuff cheaply.

Sony Challenges Rival in Digital Cinema
Reuters - June 3 Sony Electronics on Thursday unveiled a new digital projection system for movie theaters at a cost and technology upgrade that rivals market leader Texas Instruments Inc ...
..the cost of one of Sony's projectors for smaller theaters will carry a list price of $60,000 and a second projector for larger screens will be listed at $80,000, said Tom Mykietyn, director of content creation at Sony.
That was significantly lower than the $100,000 per projector that is currently being talked about in Hollywood, and roughly one-half the $150,000 that only a few years ago was the early industry standard.
