Crown Prince Naruhito, and his wife, Crown Princess Masako, have only one daughter - Princess Aiko - which has sparked much debate over whether Japan's men ... Seventy-six per cent of 1,895 people polled supported having a woman on the throne, up five percentage points from a July 2001 survey, according to the Tokyo Shimbun newspaper.
Only 10 per cent of the respondents did not approve of having an empress. Eighty-two per cent favoured a legal change to pave the way for Aiko to take the throne.
