Postby mercutio » Tue Jun 08, 2004 12:22 am

So I logged in tonight and thought I'd see what happened to the thread today that generated 13 pages in one day....you know....our buddy from the bay area who doesnt like cross-culural relationships..... it seems to have disappeared! What did I miss?

It would seem that Ric has been disappeared and all references to his existence eliminated.

Either ultra or one of the mods (not me) decided to blackhole the thread. Not sure why, because it sure was fun reading!

In a fit of apparent self hatred, I read a page and a half of the thread. :wall: It will not be missed by me...

The thread was overwhelmingly pointless.

I disagree. I think his ideas must have had at least a kernal truth in them because he sure hit a nerve. I saw another guy on Let's Japan who was saying how full of shit English teachers are and I thought he was actually tapping into something valid. Everyone got pissed and they banned him. Whenever anyone get's banned you can count on me to speak out against it. Speaking of Trolls, shit, Jez is the biggest jack-ass troll this site ever saw. I won't even hit threads if he has the last comment. Maybe before banning someone like ric you could put him on a diet. Like say no more than ten posts a day or something. Is that possible?

Isn't it exciting to see a thread really go off the hook like that? It's a bummer to go teach a couple lessons and then come home and there's only like three new posts. I think FG moves too slow.

For those of us who were curious:

Could you post it for viewing only (locked) in one of the special forums?
I was comment # 3 or 4 and then slept and missed the battle and would like to see what happened. If not, no biggie, just thought I would make a sane and polite request.

Well, he's not as bad as before. Sometimes people start off as trolls and then settle down and become normal (like NeoNecro). There are other people on this site who I feel are worse than Jez, but I'll keep that opinion to myself.

It sure is. I had a lot of fun reading it. And you are right that ric definitely hit a nerve. In fact, in a perverse sort of way, it was good to have a rarely seen straight-up, unfiltered opinion from an Asian-American male. Even if it was stupid, racist, and illogical.

Nevertheless, a flamewar can't be allowed to go on forever or it will take over the board. For example, Taro's informative posts were virtually lost in the shuffle during the Beyonf F*ed exchange.

Those sort of trolling threads start out fairly interesting, people keep things in perspective. But after awhile the overall tone of the board changes and becomes very negative. This board is well moderated, regulars can say any rude, obscene thing they want without fear of deletion or banning.

But a new postor who starts shit on his first day is just a troll. So, I think it was the right choice.[/u]

I agree. Furthermore, I didn't get much fun out of deciphering odd combinations of letters that were meant to represent words and odd combinations of words that were supposed to represent sentences.

If I ever do the same thing, ban me :!:
