I see MANY many FG technical translators making "r" and "l' spelling mistakes. Also, the longer native FG speakers stay in Japan the more they begin to make archaic or formalist distinctions in everyday conversations---I hear "whilst" and "whom" at 3am in Roppongi. Sheesh.

When I speak to my Japanese friends/colleagues, I try to use very simple words. But recently I caught myself telling someone (after a few beers), "don't misconstrue...", and they had blank faces.
