Japan is not quite a nation of drunks, but a government survey Thursday estimated there are about 820,000 alcoholics in this country.

This is my favorite part...

The interview consisted of 17 questions, including the following three:

*Have you suffered three or more injuries as a result of drinking alcohol?

If you use the strict AA definition of "Episodic Alcoholism" (drinking binges with loss of consciousness/memory) the figure is over 90% for Japan.

To put it another way, a salaryman who doesn't drink isn't employed.
Not one male employee out of 400 men in my office is a non-drinker ...INCLUDING the diabetics.

Damn straight, non drinkers are a company liability. The rule is you don't talk about what was said the night before, the day after. The only way to make sure it will not happen is to blackout or humiliate yourself so much when sauced that you don't wont to talk about it.
