Nanpa in Japanese or English?

Postby kamome » Sat Apr 06, 2002 2:48 pm

Big dilemma:

Is it better (i.e., does it bring more success) to pick up chicks in English or Japanese? If you choose English, she won't understand what you're saying, but will think it's hot. If it's Japanese, you might impress her with your bilingualism and sophistication, but she might not want a gaijin who's who's not foreign enough to be cool. So which is it?

Hey, I don't know how bad your Japanese is, but I can sound like Brad Pitt in either language. Booyah!

Actually a "friend" reminded of an old thread yesterday... it was funny to re-read it given the changes in circumstances but I was pleased to note that there was some consistency in my rantings...

An important subject like this needs resurrection! English all the way. We're talking nampa not finding a quality chick to date long term. Before those wedding bells I did it all in English. That's nama gaijin. Some chick who's gonna give it up on a one night stand to a foreigner wants the real McCoy. Ain't no cowboys in the movies speakin' no yoi-yoi-yoi shit.

I think I bear more than a passing resemblance to that "friend." Should I remind everybody of which topic it was?

It's not just nampa.

Often when speaking English, English actually horror-of-horrors end up telling the truth. I've heard some amazingly frank admissions of deeply troubling feelings from Japanese so engrossing in communicating in English, they forget to lie....
"It's wasn't the gang-rapes, I quit the bozuzuku ought of total boredom."--Waseda girl

"Don't ask me want to do---I just a girl. You want you want." ---Keio Unv. grad student in Women's Studies

"My brother used to nurse on his granny's titties till he was 8 years old." ---DoCoMo bucho/designer

"Oh I got the money for the LV purse from my father---all I had to do is soap him up and DOWN well in the bath." ---OL age 25

Reading your Japanese is much easier compared to reading my Japanese engineer comments. It's not like your vocab is any different from the average email I get here at work...it's Japanese men hate to say anything concrete.

Have you ever noticed it wildly easier to understand gaijin movies dubbed into Japanese than to understand Japanese movies?

yeah... Ive noticed that too. The same goes for subtitles. Foriegn movies that have Japanese subtitles are much easier to read than Japanese movies with Japanese subtitles. I think it is because there are fewer "expressions" used and less things left implied.

I get it. You put all those evil witch symbols up there to see if I can read 'Japanese' and if I can't how can I compare? Totally a dickheaded test. You got it out for me or something mercutio? The day I start doing my Japanese homework on FG is the day I should be banned from this forum.

Blazing reading speed: Western movies that have Japanese subtitles
Sad reading speed: Chinese movies with Japanese subtitles.
Totally hopeless reading speed: Korean movies with Japanese subtitles. (I always am trying to twist the Korean I'm hearing into Japanese.)

nonono!! dude! not my intention at all... actually, what I was trying to say felt more natural in japanese and I just stuck with it.

All I said was basically "Ak likes the more plain-natural type but I like the dolled up Shibuya girls (meaning that might have something to do with it the difference of opinion) but I still think that if you go out in places that arent gaijin-centric, youre better off with japanese"
