I will say this. Bongo has posted two stories. The Koizumi rape charge and this one and they both turned out not to be BULLSHIT. If an old trusted reg was breaking stories on the Net on FG we'd all probably be saying good on ya. I do think both of these stories debuted on FG. I mean, they hit TV before they hit the Net. Bongo, picked it up and put it here first. Both stories turned out legit. There was no link because there was no link.

The man then shot Nishioka in the stomach and fled with the bag...."Panic-stricken people were pouring out of the exits," said a 23-year-old man who was distributing leaflets at ground level. "At first I thought a bomb had gone off."....
Yusuke Nakamura, a Tokyo Metro official who worked on the scene after the shooting, said that Nishioka was a quiet man and unlikely to cause trouble with passengers. Nishioka began working at Tokyo Metro's Shibuya Station in April 1999.

Calm down and think rationally. You are in the wrong here.

A) You had to have seen at least a few news stories posted. None without links to relevant stories. We gather and share with each other, not tell each other whats on the TV, and we provide links to stories so we don't have to play 30 questions (though we do get to speculating afterwards). If you didn't even look at them and just assumed...your fault not ours and the anger is inappropriate.

B) You seem to either have not read much of the board or are being deliberately ignorant. Ultra is not the board mod. He is the board owner. Continuing to antagonize him and refusing to follow his rules for his board is not a good idea.

We don't have many rules, and even fewer unspoken ones, but you have run into one here. The easiest resolution is let this blow by and either adhere to this one or not post news items. Don't leave because you misunderstood something and are mad that it had to be pointed out to you. Maybe Ultra will update the news posting guidelines because of this, maybe not. It's his board and he can run it how he likes. But don't cut yourself or us off because of a trivial matter like this.

These are the minimal posting guidelines for news. I don't see why it would be necessary to provide a link for every story, though it is good form to report the source (be it TV, tabloid, whatever- hopefully not just 'my friend said...) Limiting FG news to whatever the Japanese media is free to print strikes me as bad policy.

Thank you, Taro-san, for attempting (though you failed) to get this thread back on topic. While I appreciate the gravity of the issue, would it be out of line to ask our friendly neighborhood mods to split out the posting policy discussion to a different thread (or even better, forum) and stick to news here?

I can't believe that we haven't even *started* the normally mandatory discussion how incompetent the J-cops are to not have caught this guy on his way out of the station, etc., etc.

This news beats the carjacking-by-knife of a customer at my local supermarket last year.. I am actually starting to wonder if I should be worrying about safety!! This story is starting to be interpreted now....the "motive" is a fight over a paper bag of USED "UNDERWEAR" the station master was carrying that the chimpira perp thought was a bag of money. Note the comment about "sporadic attacks" on station workers, which should read "NIGHTLY attacks" by drunks.

The Japan Times, June 24.... Police said the attacker and Nishioka grappled over a paper bag Nishioka was holding, which contained his toiletries and some clothes.
Witnesses quoted the assailant as saying: "Hand it over, hand it over" before firing the shot at close range. Because no empty cartridge was found at the scene, police said they believe the weapon used was a revolver.
Investigators said the assailant, who is suspected of attempted murder for the attack, may have followed Nishioka and were analyzing footage from security cameras in and around the station.... A Tokyo Metro spokesman said that while there have been sporadic attacks on subway station staff by drunks, this was probably the first time an employee has been shot.

Yep, it's the Gateway-to-Hell alright. After a late night in Shibuya, I take the empty train heading into Tokyo's center to the end-of-the-line rather than fighting the puking hoards of Shibuya crazies fighting to on the last trains out of town.

Specifically for me, 1 out 5 rides from that platform after 11pm results in an altercation. So far my Shibuya Fight Club record is: 200 draws, 12 TKOs, 2 KOs and no arrests. Didn't their mama's teach 'em it ain't nice to pick on a cripple?

It reminds me of the story (urabn myth?) of a bag-snatcher who grabbed a plastic bag off a lady in the street only to later discover that it was the bag she'd used to pick up after her dog.

Yeh, the truth be known, it's Mrs. Taro who thought up the idea me wearing the Pongi Helmet Cam(tm) to prove "who started it."

It's always the same problem. Some a-hole pushes me down the stairs and runs away without an apology. I catch up with the a-hole and ask him for a dance on the 3rd rail. Then stationmaster comes and hauls off the drunk (I call that a "draw"). The Shibuya stationmasters are all my buddies and they say they have to fight many drunks every night.
Sometimes the drunk throws a punch at that "somehow" ends up in a painful armbar or wristlock (I call that a "TKO").
A few times the drunk is raving so I have hoist them up their necktie to the train car's luggage rack and tie it off before I jump off the train and leave (I call that a "KO").
