Japan, the perfect place to get away with murder

Image Forensic medicine not yet administered nationwideDaily Yomiuri / June 24
...the Tokyo Medical Examiner's Office is the leader in forensic medicine in Japan. Osaka, Kobe, Yokohama and Nagoya also have a medical examiner system, but only the Tokyo and Hyogo prefectural governments employ medical examiners on a full-time basis.
... Corpse Autopsy and Preservation Law, was introduced in the country by GHQ [[ MacArthur's General Head Quarters]].
"This system was introduced in seven cities, as GHQ thought it would cover about 30 percent of total population in the country," Fukunaga said. "They also hoped that the system would eventually spread to the rest of the country."
Unfortunately, the system continues to shrink, with Kyoto and Fukuoka having abolished it in 1985..In local governments without medical examiner's offices, doctors tend to designate as "heart failure" or "intracerebral bleeding" those cases in which they are uncertain about the cause of a victim's death....The number of forensic medicine experts in the country is seriously short, standing at only 155....

I'm too drunk to reply properly but this is an important thread. When the cops accuse you in Japan your as good as guilty with a 95% prosecution rate (or something like that). No use at all of forensics is totally third world. It's like who cares who really did it? The fuzz say you did it. You can confess and apologize and receive 4 years or plead not guilty and get 12. Cop's word vs facts and proof. Let the latter reign.

That is seriously disturbing.

Japan might take a lot of pride in its relatively low crime rate, but that's the key word, low, not non-existant!

The lack of professional forensics labs is a veritable wet-dream for many nutcases out there. Add to this the guilty-before-proven-innocent approach, and you've got one twisted legal system that apparently most people think is actually pretty ideal.

I can just see it now: "But doctor, there appear to be seventeen stab wounds on the cadaver's lower and upper back!" "Bah, stupid rookie! Don't you know that that's a sure-fire sign of heart failure?!? BAKA!"
